Welcome to the US/Namibia Adopt-a-School Program, a unique initiative bridging the educational and technological gap between students at Sanford H. Calhoun High School in Merrick, NY, and Roots Gymnasium in Stampriet, Namibia. This program fosters global connections and mutual learning through mentoring and tutoring, enriching both communities despite their 7,400-mile distance.
Our mission is to create meaningful cross-cultural relationships between Namibian and American students, enriching their educational experiences and broadening their global perspectives. By connecting these students, we aim to foster mutual understanding and support, enhancing their academic and personal growth.
Key Aspects: Calhoun students actively mentor and tutor their counterparts at Roots Gymnasium, focusing on essential subjects such as mathematics, science, and English. This interaction supports academic achievement and encourages cultural exchange and global awareness. Our successful fundraising efforts have also allowed us to provide necessary digital tools like Chromebooks to Roots Gymnasium and its sister schools, which are crucial for participating in today’s digital learning environment.
Looking ahead...
Our continued objective is to nurture this program, sustain the educational and cultural connections that have been established, and seek ways to involve more schools in Namibia. We are committed to building lasting educational equity and connecting communities across continents.
Join us in this transformative journey to empower minds and bridge nations!
