We are a group of high school students from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, a magnet school in the Northern Virginia Area. We came up with the idea for GRIP when thinking about a yearlong project for our Robotics Senior Research Lab. We are not simply doing this project to complete an assignment, but because we truly passionate about engineering and the design process. In addition, our love for the environment contributed heavily to choosing our idea, and we hope people who view our project learn more about how to protect our Earth.
The goal of GRIP is to detect plastic underwater in ponds, lakes, and rivers. We want to achieve this goal through the means of an Underwater ROV, which will be controlled remotely via a cable. A rotating camera will be attached to the ROV, which will be used not only for control but also detection.
