Thomas D. Carroll

Associate Professor (Teaching): Philosophy/Religious Studies, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen)

I'm an educator and researcher working in the areas of comparative ethics, philosophy of religion, and Wittgenstein studies. I am on the faculty at CUHK-Shenzhen, where I teach courses in philosophy, religious studies and interdisciplinary humanities.

I am the author of Wittgenstein within the Philosophy of Religion (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014), essays concerning Wittgenstein, religion, and intercultural communication (in collections with De Gruyter, Springer, Brill, and Bloomsbury), and articles on Wittgenstein, ethics, philosophy of religion, and/or comparative philosophy in Dao, Journal of the American Academy of Religion, Metaphilosophy, Philosophy East and West, Religious Studies, and Sophia. With Anne Blackburn, I prepared for publication John Clayton’s posthumous book Religions, Reasons, and Gods: Essays in Cross-Cultural Philosophy of Religion (Cambridge University Press, 2006).

When permitted by publishers, I've posted papers here under research or on my profiles at PhilPeople, ResearchGate, and Academia.edu.

I'm also on some social media (@thomasdcarroll). From time to time, I also write short informal pieces on my blog.
