Welcome to my homepage.

I am a professor in the Department of Statistics, Pusan National University which is located at a beautiful harbor city, Busan in South Korea.

I received my Ph.D in Statistics from University of Michigan in 2008 under the supervision of Prof. Robert Keener. I was a post-doctoral researcher of biostatistics at University of Pennsylvania from 2009 to 2011 (working with Prof. Hongzhe Li), and an associate research scientist of biostatistics at Columbia University from 2011 to 2013 (working with Prof. Shuang Wang). Also, I was a visiting scholar in the Department of Biostatistics, Columbia University during my sabbatical year.

My research focuses on developing new statistical methods and computational programs useful for analysis of high-dimensional genomic data such as DNA methylation data, gene expression data and SNP data.  Particularly, I am working on genetic association studies, rare variant analysis, gene set analysis, genetic pathway analysis and gene co-expression analysis. Also,  I am interested in developing new R packages related to statistical methods in bioinformatics.

My lab welcomes new graduate students who are interested in statistical genetics and bioinformatics.

An ideal student will have a B.A/B.S in statistics/mathematics/computer science or another quantitative field as well as excellent computer programming skills. Students applying to my lab should have R programming experience.

All graduate students in my lab have been financially supported since 2014. I have multiple research grants till 2024. Qualified students who have strong quantitative background and substantial programming experience will be provided with stipends. If you are interested in the graduate student positions, please feel free to contact me.
