I've been lucky enough to teach a string of cooking classes recently, and I have learnt a lot! I've actually been teaching cooking for well over a decade, but there's always something new to learn. That's why I've finally decided to sit down and lay out the secrets of Good Cooking.

5 Tips of Great Cooking for Beginners

  1. Experiment and try new recipes without fearing for the worst . Good Cooks learn by doing hands on experiences even if it involves spills and messes.
  2. Pick recipes they'd like to try. Usually beginners pick dessert recipes but you should also include lunches, breakfast, snacks and dinner in your learning to cook adventures.
  3. Put Yourself in charge of Brakfast/Lunch or dinner once a month or once a week, whatever works at your house. Plan the menu , arrange for ingredients and prepare the meal for the family. Make sure there are healthy choices in your menu plan such as vegetables , Salads , Protein , Carbohydates included with the meal.
  4. Learn more about food in general. Read Cook Books , watch TV Channels or YOUTUBE .Learning facts about the food we eat makes creating something together for lunch or snack time more real . And you will love talking about food with anyone.
  5. Getting interested in working in the kitchen sometimes requires making food fun. How about a theme dinner? Or center dinner around a theme . Dress up, make a menu and cook the particular meal. Making meal time and cooking can and should be a fun activity.

5 Good Things about MY Cooking Class

  1. BASICS OF COOKING : When I first start a cooking class, my students have to know the fundamentals of cooking. These basics of cooking can include the type of pans I will be using in my class, detailed explanations of various cooking techniques, basic rules of the kitchen, appliance safety and knife safety.
  2. Cooking Handouts :My cooking class needs handouts. It includes information and reminders of important concepts you want them to remember. It also includes the recipes I will be showing my students how to make.
  3. Start Small : I don't want to throw my students into a practical cooking lesson by having them cook an elaborate 5 course meal. I start with small dishes with limited ingredients. Cooking is always learnt by Starting Basic dishes and then Making Great Dishes.
  4. TESTING TIME : My cooking class have invisible tests that students take without knowing that they are being Tested before being advanced to the next lesson.I have a practical exam based on their general cooking knowledge & to properly prepare a dish that I taught in class.
  5. Competition : This is Great Fun . I Allow my students to experiment with food. This shows me how much my students have learnt . I judge the dishes and declare an overall winner.
