Chess lovers

Chess originates from the ancient Indian game of Chaturanga, based on the four arms of ancient Indian military viz. infantry, horses, elephants and chariots. These arms are controlled by a Minister and the King. In the modern international terminlogy, they have become the pawn, knight, bishop, rook, Queen and King.

The ancient Persian narrator Bozorgmehr explains in the Pahlavi language that Chatrang, was introduced to Persia by 'Dewasarm, a great ruler of India during the reign of Khosrow I  who ruled Persia in the 4th century AD:

Dewasarm has fashioned this chatrang after the likeness of a battle, and in its likeness are two supreme rulers after the likeness of Shahs (Kings), with the essentials of rukhs (flankers) to right and to left, with Farzin (Counsellor) in the likeness of a commander of the champions, with the Pil (Elephant) in the likeness of the commander of the rearguard, with Asp (horse) in the likeness of the commander of the cavalry, with the Piyadak (Foot soldier) in the likeness of so many infantry in the vanguard of the battle.

We will kick off the operations of the chess club shortly.
