Dental Checklist for School-Going Children

When the days start shortening after summer season, one of the top concerns for parents is to pay attention to their children who are about to go back to school. Their backpacks and clothes need proper care because they are going to need these items on everyday basis.

Along with many other things which require proper attention, oral health of your kids is among the top things you need to be careful about. So, there are a few things that you can add into your kids’ back-to-school checklist in order to ensure their better oral health.

Things that you need to add in the checklist are worth mentioning here.

Dental checkup

Summer is usually the time of care-free fun for children. This is the time when you can put a lot of things on delay. Although you need to be vigilant about children’s health during holidays, they are going to need this attention more when they are about to go back to school. Hence, this is the time when you can require the dentist of your children to give you time slot for children’s dental checkup.

Healthy routines

During holidays, you and your children may like the freehand which the time gives you from the perspective of a bit of leisure routines. Well, you need to change this routine a bit in order to make you and your children used to the tougher routine which lies ahead after the schools start.

Replace toothbrush

You need to make sure that you change your toothbrush after every 3 months. So, if you haven’t bought your children toothbrushes during last three months, now is the time to go for this purchase. Moreover, you have to make sure that you are not running short of other supplies such as toothpaste, dental floss, and mouthwash.

Teeth friendly foods

Any day in school can turn out to be the tough time because it requires kids to be fully present from the perspective of their minds. This is the reason that there are lunch breaks in which children can eat something in order to stay energized. If you are giving your children chips and other sugary and fatty snacks, you are not helping them in staying energized. Moreover, these snacks can be bad for their oral health. The best thing you can do here is to give them healthy snacks which may consist of carrot sticks, fruits and water.

Protection against injuries

While your children are about to go back to school, you have to make sure that their teeth are protected against injuries. Sports activities in schools are good for overall health but these activities can also result in several types of oral and dental injuries. Therefore, you will have to buy your children the mouth guards which are quite helpful in protecting your children’s teeth against the effects of hard impacts.
