I am an incoming PhD student in Information Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Currently I'm working as a Research Fellow at Max Planck Institute for Software Systems with Dr. Elissa Redmiles. I also serve as a visiting researcher in the Third Space Research Group at the Department of Computer Science, University of Toronto (remote).
Prior to this, I worked as a Research Assistant at CSE, BRAC University, and at the Department of Human Centered Computing, Monash University, Australia in the PROTIC II project.
I'm broadly interested in the intersection of technology and society. I use mixed-methods to study privacy, trust, ethics, bias, and social justice within socio-technical systems.
My research focuses on:
Understanding how existing and emerging technologies shape, transform, and disrupt the concepts of privacy, security, safety, and trust (particularly in the marginalized context).
Exploring the influence of culture, faith, and traditions on privacy and security decisions and practices, and design technologies aligned with them.
Over the past six years, I have conducted extensive ethnographic research with diverse groups, including online sexual harassment survivors, juvenile delinquents, sex workers, slum-dwellers, and LGBTQ+, Hijra, Bede, and Harijan communities across the Global South. My work has been widely recognized and published in top HCI venues such as CHI and CSCW. One of my CHI papers got a Best Paper Award this year as a first author. To date, I have published over 20 research papers, including ten in CHI and CSCW. My other works are published in ICTD, ACM DIS, COMPASS, JCSS, and CUI.

Reading and others
Things I love personally: reading, painting, and recording music.
Since 2023, I've been regularly joining the Third Space Reading Group of University of Toronto. We meet weekly to read, present, and discuss scholarly papers and books. The reading themes are often around Data, Algorithms and Community, Design Justice, Politics and Information, etc. I was also a member of ICT4S reading group of Bristol University, UK back in 2020.
Lately, I've been very inspired by Ruha Benjamin's work. Right now, I’m reading her book Viral Justice: How We Grow the World We Want.
