McCartney Cattle Company

McCartney Cattle Company is a start-up ranch located on the high plains of Wyoming. It will produce cattle free from antibiotics and hormones, along with meat chickens and eggs, using holistic/intensive grazing practices. Using these grazing practices, the company will increase its herd-carrying capacity to 50% or greater in the first three years. Initially, the company will sell its calf crop through livestock auctions and private purchase. However, as the company grows, it will begin finishing its cattle on grass, and will then market the finished beef to natural grocers, individuals, and restaurants.

McCartney Cattle Company will slowly introduce pasture-raised meat chickens and pastured eggs into its business model. Chickens will follow the cows in the pasture rotation. Chickens will clean up the manure from the cows and spread it for better incorporation into the soil. Chickens will also reduce insect populations by eating insects and their larvae. The incorporation of chickens into the company's rotation will also sanitize the pastures, thus reducing the risk of disease in its cattle.

The owners believe in restoring grassland to its natural, pristine state by using foraging animals to rebuild the soil and plant life of the ranch by mimicking the grazing patterns and habits of the millions of Bison which used to roam the region. The company will replace natural predators and the natural occurrence of fire by using electric fencing and intensively grazing a paddock, and then moving to a new paddock, providing that it has already had an ample rest period. This allows plant life to sequester more carbon from the atmosphere and, with the use of natural sunshine, regenerate once overgrazed grassland to newly abundant, flourishing pastures with great biodiversity in plant and animal life.

Another income stream in the business will come from raising and selling high-quality, natural grass hay. The amount of hay the company sells is dependent on the size of ranch it is able to acquire.

McCartney Cattle Company will advertise through a business web page and social media, and by cold calling businesses such as natural grocers and restaurants. Its target customer base will be natural grocers, individual consumers, and restaurants. The company will welcome consumers to its ranch so they can see exactly where their food is coming from. The demand for natural, humanely raised meat is on the rise, and the company will provide the highest quality beef and chicken for consumption.

While there are other competitors in the market, McCartney Cattle Company will have a competitive edge because of its holistic/intensive grazing practices. It will care for the environment and will keep a low carbon footprint by focusing its sales within a 5-hour radius of the ranch to reduce fuel consumption. Grass-fed beef is much healthier than beef finished on grain, and the company will only offer grass-fed calves and beef cattle as well as pastured chicken and eggs.

McCartney Cattle Company will be owned and operated by its two owners: David McCartney and Tonni McCartney. David and Tonni will be responsible for all ranching duties, as well as managing finances and marketing. As the company grows, it will need additional employees to assist with operations.

McCartney Cattle Company is currently in the fundraising stage of our enterprise. We are seeking funding to purchase land, equipment, and livestock. If you are interested in helping to support a business invested in creating healthy natural meat for consumption while healing grassland naturally without the use of chemicals and other petroleum-based products we welcome your support financially or otherwise.
