I am an Associate Professor of Economics in the Department of Defense Management at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS). My research contributes to two broad topics in labor economics: skills and the labor market, and economics of education, including applications to the U.S. military. For example, I have examined how agglomeration economies, the economic status of women, and immigration affect human capital accumulation and the returns to skills.
At NPS, I teach courses and supervise theses in the M.S. in Management and Defense Management programs. I am also Academic Associate for the Manpower Systems Analysis curriculum and a Research Faculty Affiliate at UCLA’s California Center for Population Research. Prior to joining NPS in 2014, I was Assistant Professor of Economics at UC Irvine, Adjunct faculty at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Consultant for The World Bank and other NGOs. I earned my Ph.D. in Economics from UCLA, from where I also received my M.A. and B.A. (Summa Cum Laude) in Economics.
