Md. Jahurul Islam is a faculty member in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Khulna Agricultural University. He earned his MS in Agricultural Economics at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University and a B.Sc. in the same subject from the Sylhet Agricultural University, Sylhet, Bangladesh.

Md Jahurul Islam is an aspiring agricultural economist who studies agricultural economics, agricultural marketing, agricultural value chain and entrepreneurship development, environment, ecosystem services, and resource economies. His current research deals with Labor Migration and Its Nexus with Small-Scale Farm Producers: Empirical Evidence from the Southwest Region of Bangladesh; the salinity status and rice production in the southern coastal region of Bangladesh, the impact of rural credit on the technical efficiency of Boro rice production in Bangladesh, etc. 

Mr. Islam has been teaching courses on principles of economics, agricultural economics, basic and intermediate microeconomics, the economy of Bangladesh, Veterinary economics, and mathematical economics. Before joining KAU, Mr. Md. Jahurul Islam was a Researcher at the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD). In this leading civil society think-tank, he researched various macroeconomic issues, i.e., climate change and SDG issues, budget analysis, monetary and fiscal policy, etc. He also worked as a Research Analyst at the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS), where he was engaged in analyzing the various microeconomic datasets such as; the Labor Force Survey (LFS) and Household Income Expenditure (HIES) survey conducted by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), and Bangladesh Integrated Household Survey (BIHS) conducted by IFPRI. 

He started his career as a Research Assistant at the South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM) in a project titled “Study on Employment, Productivity and Sectoral Investment in Bangladesh.” The project mainly focused on exploring the employment and investment scenarios in Bangladesh and seeking out the livelihood and asset structure of vulnerable communities in rural and urban areas.
