Florida ZUUM is a shared project between professional religious educators of the UU congregations of Florida. The aim is to provide digital spaces for connection and community for all age groups through weekly meetings using the Zoom platform. In this document, you’ll find important meeting information and resources to help you have a smooth Zoom experience. Please reach out to the professional religious educator in your congregation for more information about Florida ZUUM. We look forward to fostering our faith and making new friends with you!

“Zoom Bombing”
We recognize that with the increased use of Zoom and other virtual conferencing platforms due to the coronavirus pandemic, there has been an increase in “zoom bombing” (when folks not in covenant with the group break into the meeting) To mitigate this issue, the following steps are in place for each meeting:
Meeting IDs are not shared publicly on websites, but via this document or a congregation’s email publications.
All meetings require a password. (See note under the list of groups.)
Meeting participants first enter a waiting room where they will be “on hold” until the facilitator lets them join the meeting.
Facilitators control who is and is not allowed to share their screens.
Facilitators can turn off a participant’s camera and/or microphone if required.
Facilitators can remove participants from the meeting should their behavior break covenant in a way which harms or endangers other participants.
Covenant for participants
The following is a basic covenant for all groups. As covenants are living documents created and kept by those who follow them, specifics of this covenant may be different in each group and there may be additional lines. Groups will review their covenant at the start of their meetings.
We keep the circle open - we are welcoming and inclusive, recognizing the involvement of all is sacred.
Our stories are our own - we respect the confidentiality of these groups and will not share each other’s stories outside of the group. We also will not seek out a member of a group outside the meeting for more information about things they share.
We speak with love - we consider the things we say and how we say them so that we can speak our truth with love.
We honor each other’s time - we are mindful of how much time/space we are taking up in meetings and make sure others have the same opportunities to share and discuss.
We own our mistakes - we trust those who tell us our actions caused harm and we take responsibility for our mistakes. We are committed to restorative justice practices.
Pastoral care
These are difficult times and folks might share deep concerns, fears, or sorrows in group meetings. When something serious is shared, the facilitator of the meeting will ask the speaker if they can let their congregation’s religious education professional know about the concern. This way, folks can be provided appropriate pastoral care from their congregation.
Mandatory reporting
All facilitators are mandatory reporters. Please click here for information about mandatory reporting in Florida.
