Emily V. Dressler, PhD

About Me

Hi! My name is Emily Dressler, and I am an associate professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Data Science within the Division of Public Health Sciences at Wake Forest School of Medicine as of July 2017. I lead the Biostatistics core of the Wake Forest NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) and am part of their NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center Biostatistics Shared Resource.

Previously I was at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY as a faculty member in the Biostatistics Shared Resource Facility at the Markey Cancer Center as well as the Division of Cancer Biostatistics located within the College of Public Health.

I completed my Ph.D. in Biostatistics at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC in August 2010. I also completed my M.S. in Biostatistics at MUSC in 2009, and I received my B.S. in Mathematical Sciences with a concentration in Statistics and a minor in Music at Clemson University in 2005.

I am a big college sports fan and proud to be a Clemson Tiger! I grew up with UK basketball and we enjoy cheering on the Wildcats! I love music and minored in that during college, and I also had an opportunity to learn sign language during my undergraduate education. At the time, that was my way of taking a cool class to get out of the foreign language requirement (little did I know it would be the class that introduced my sister to her future career)!

Family is very important to me! My parents live in Greenville, SC and I have a younger sister and brother both living in Atlanta, GA. Dane and I got married in Pawleys Island, SC in 2014, and now have 2 beautiful boys.

Obviously the lowcountry is our home away from home and we love taking trips back as often as possible! We also enjoyed living in Lexington, KY and were fortunate to be surrounded by some of my extended family and grandparents while living up there. We spent most of our free time exploring the beautiful Bluegrass state, and we loved our little house on Woodbine and it will always be special to us since it was our first real home!

But on to the next adventure! Now we are living in Winston-Salem, NC and learning about our new city! We're also very excited to be near our families in South Carolina and much closer to the beach!

Life is very different these days as we now have two sons, Emerson and Hunter. It is a blast!
