Welcome to a portal where the life and works of the once chaplain of the University of Peradeniya Catholic Chaplaincy, Fr. Egerton Perera is being remembered and kept alive among his friends and those of whom have been touched by his life.
This verse from Rabindranath Tagore's Githanjali depicts well how Fr. Egerton lilved his life. This was also the verse he used in his Ordination Invitation.
This is my prayer to thee, my lord—strike, strike at the root of penury in my heart.
Give me the strength lightly to bear my joys and sorrows.
Give me the strength to make my love fruitful in service.
Give me the strength never to disown the poor or bend my knees before insolent might.
Give me the strength to raise my mind high above daily trifles.
And give me the strength to surrender my strength to thy will with love.
- Githanjali 36
We hope this website will present the works of Fr. Egerton Perera and keep alive his mission of being present to the needful persons.
“I WORSHIP A GOD
I EXPERIENCE ALIVE AND WITH ME.
I PROCLAIM A GOD
I HAVE HEARD AND SEEN
TOUCHED AND TASTED.”
-Fr. Egerton Perera
I WORSHIP A GOD
I DO NOT UNDERSTAND.
AND YET,
A GOD
I CANNOT DENY.
-Fr. Egerton Perera
