Discovery District

Golden Empire Council

PROUDLY SERVING THE SOUTH PLACER COMMUNITIES OF GRANITE BAY, LINCOLN, LOOMIS, ROCKLIN & ROSEVILLE

The purpose of the Discovery District is to work through chartered organizations and community groups to organize and support successful units - Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Venturing Crews, and Explore Posts.

District leaders mobilize resources to ensure the growth and success of the Scouting units within the Discovery District.

The District accomplishes these goals by providing leadership in four areas:

    • Unit Service - Commissioner Service & Round Tables
    • Membership - Recruiting & New Unit Organization
    • Program - Activities, Advancement & Recognition, Camping & Outdoor Program, and Training
    • Finance - Friends of Scouting (F.O.S.) Campaign, Popcorn Sales, and Camp Cards

The result of an effective District is more and more youth members receiving a better and better program.

MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to instill values in young people and prepare them to make ethical choices during their lifetimes, to take leadership roles as adults, and to reach their full potential. Those values are based on character, citizenship, personal fitness, and are found in the Scout Oath and Law. We accomplish our mission in partnership with chartered organizations and chosen, well-trained leaders, as we:

  • Offer young people responsible fun and adventure.
  • Instill in young people life values and help them develop ethical character as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law.
  • Train young people in citizenship, service, and leadership.
  • Serve America's communities and families with quality values.

VISION STATEMENT

Our vision is to be recognized within the communities we serve as the premiere youth organization, carrying out the mission of the Boy Scouts of America. We will make first-class programs available to all youth within the South Placer Communities. Program results will have dramatic, positive effects on the youth, leaders, and families we serve, building strong communities with caring citizens.

The vision for the Discovery District is to accomplish the mission of the BSA in such an exemplary manner as to be recognized by our public as the premier youth organization in the communities we serve and by other Districts, Councils and the National Council as second to none in all our endeavors.

LOOKING TO JOIN SCOUTING?

Whether you're looking at Scouting opportunities for your youth to participate, volunteering as a Scouter, or both we make it easy.

Visit Be A Scout to learn more about Scouting, including when and where Scouts in your area meet by simply entering your zip code.

If you have Scout friends, find out when they meet next and plan a visit.

We have Scouting programs for boys and girls beginning with Cub Scouts in first grade (7-10) then bridging to Boy Scouts after 5th grade (11-17). Also there are Venturing as well as Exploring (14-20 and open to both young men and young women) programs that provide broader opportunities and experiences.

With an elected membership created to honor Scouts that best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law, the Order of the Arrow (14-20) is the National Honor Society of the Boy Scouts of America with a local chapter within the Discovery District.

We hope you'll join us. Scouting provides youth with an opportunity to try new things, provide service to others, build self-confidence, and reinforce ethical standards. These opportunities not only help them when they are young but also carry forward into their adult lives, improving their relationships, their work lives, their family lives, and the values by which they live.
