Welcome to Dr. Duy Duong-Tran's personal webpage

Dr. Duy Duong-Tran is currently  a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at The United States Naval Academy (USNA - US Department of Defense). USNA is #1 Public (#3 Overall) Liberal Art Institution in the US in 2023 by US News and Ranking.

He was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics in Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, US. PennMedicine is the first medical school established in the United States and the Ivy League. He is excited to strengthen his research portfolio at Shen Lab headed by Prof Li Shen, Professor of Informatics / Deputy Director, Division of Informatics.

In May 2022, he received his PhD in the School of Industrial Engineering (PurdueIE: #2 Undergraduate (2023) and #7 (2023) Graduate IE Program in U.S.) at Purdue University College of Engineering (#4 Graduate Engineering Program in US, 2022). He was very fortunate to be advised by Prof. Joaquin Goñi (Head of CONNplexity Lab) during his PhD journey. In addition, his research foundation has also been strengthened by Prof. Mario Dzemidzic (Associate Research Professor of Neurology at Indiana University School of Medicine) and Dr. Alan David Kaplan (Group Leader in Computational Engineering Division at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory - a US Department of Energy National Lab).

In terms of service, he is currently on search committees at USNA; before that, he was the chair of health and wellness (Purdue IE - 2019) and a committee member (a search consultant) in the Search Committee for the Purdue IE Head Search in 2021. Dr. Duong-Tran was selected based on his view on Diversity-Equity-Inclusion (an ideal deeply embedded in the US culture "E pluribus unum" (Out of many, One).

High-order coordination patterns and geometrically-aware computations. Leveraging tools in algebraic topology, such as persistent homology computations, opens a whole new array of opportunities to identify potential non-local mesoscopic structures that distinguish between healthy controls and patient groups. In addition, undirected networks are indeed (semi-)positive definite matrices in which non-Euclidean geometry might be more fitting.

Low dimensional Representation of high-dimensional data. In this paper, I represent how human brain reconfigures under various cognitive conditions using two phenotype coordinates (Trapping Efficiency and Exit Entropy).

Seminar on community detection problem in complex network.

Seminar (in English) on Statistical Process Control (SPC). This talk focused on traditional industrial processes. To date, SPC has been extended to application in tracking anomalous activities in health applications, or complex networks.
