Mrs. La Tonya White, MA
HER COUNSELING PHILOSOPHY
My philosophy, as a School Counselor, is rooted in the belief that every student is a unique individual with their own set of strengths, challenges, and experiences. To best support all students, my counseling approach is holistic and recognizes the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and spirit.
My goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment where students feel heard, valued, and respected. I believe in building positive relationships with students, their families, and the school community to foster trust and open communication.
It is my commitment of providing educational youth opportunities and access to programs to enrich lives to meet the global challenges of today, for not only students, but their families as well.
As a School Counselor, my philosophy of school counseling is grounded in a deep respect for the individuality of each student and the belief that every student has the potential to succeed and thrive with the right support and guidance.

LOCATING A MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDER
There are generally 3 ways to obtain mental health services.
If you have private insurance, your 1st stop should be a phone call to your insurance by obtaining the number on your medical card. Once you contact them, ask for the behavior health benefits.
A: The first is by locating a provider that is covered under your plan.
B: Some employers offer an Employee Assistance Program, which generally allows you to receive a certain amount of free sessions for you and or your family, to see a therapist at no cost to you.
You can go to Harris County's 2-1-1 website, or call 877-541-7905 to locate help with food, shelter, employment, veteran assistance, but also for mental health service like finding a Therapist based on your income. Simply type the keyword you are in search of and enter your Zip code for the nearest resource available.

Breathing techniques help calm down anxiety as well. Simply take slow breathes in and out a minimum of 3 times and more, while counting to the number 10 slowly. This will help alleviate anxiety.
As always, please follow up with your mental health professional if any of these occurrences become more frequent than normal.
