Approach to Providing Unbundled Legal Services:
Unbundled services are available to allow clients the ability to seek affordable assistance through legal issues. Although my approach is to give as much support as possible so that the client can remain autonomous (i.e. not have to fully retain a lawyer), a collaborative process between the client and the lawyer providing the unbundled services is absolutely necessary. I will not draft pleadings, assist clients in court, or write a legal opinion without a full intake and full knowledge of the issues. It's important that the client be able to trust the advice given, even if it's in a limited context.
Mediation: I have taken family mediation training and have acted as counsel in mediation in 5 or fewer mediations in the last 5 years.
Approach to Supporting Clients in Mediation:
A full knowledge of the issues is always necessary. I like to meet the client once or twice before any mediation and come up with options for the client. My approach to support is to be as empathetic as possible. These are important issues for the client, and it's important to encourage empathy so both sides can find a solution. That said, agreement does not mean that we need to concede our position. There's a delicate balance to be achieved in representing a client at a mediation - that is my approach.

Cultural Diversity Experience:
I have experience working with clients that do not speak either English or French. This means that I have experience working with interpreters - including ASL interpreters.
I believe it is important to help represent clients from all walks of life and that it is important to be sensitive / recognize how a client identifies themselves. Culture and identity significantly impact the client's perspective and approach to our litigation or mediation matters. As counsel, it's important for me to be aware of these backgrounds and diverse experiences so I can represent everyone that comes through my door to the best of my abilities.
