RECORDING STUDIO

2018 SPRING Prof: Altuğ KASALI

In this project, we were given a ‘Programming Document’ which contains the details of the plan, and content of the program. Then we were asked to investigate the needs of our program and design the interior accordingly. My program was a Recording Studio.

All of the spaces were placed in relation to each other, in order to create an efficient interior circulation and to get the natural light. By putting Entrance and Bar to the core, creating a social environment was aimed, since the building was designed as a place to make all kind of musicians and producers interact with each other.

Circulation elements (stairs and elevators) were located on the middle of the plan which made it difficult to locate Main Tracking Room, Piano Booth and Drum Booth next to the Control Room as it was stated on the programing document. In order to solve that problem, I came up with an idea of separating the Main Tracking Room from Piano and Drum Booths and adding one more Control Room. By doing that, all studios ended up next to a Control Room, as they were originally planned. Studios and Control Rooms were separated with a partial glass, which made it easier to coordinate.

A corridor from the Entrance to the Apparatus Room was put, for visitors to watch the performers without disturbing them. Also, thanks to that corridor a Sound Lock space wasn’t necessary in the building. It makes a barrier between the Recording Studio and the Entrance, providing a sound installation.
