In-Person Voting on May 16
If you plan to vote in person, make sure you are headed to the right polling location on the day of the vote.
The following poll locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16. If you do not know your election district, you can search for it by using the Voter Look Up tool.
Ulster County and the City of Kingston have recently made changes to their voting districts. Please note that these changes will not affect your school budget vote polling place. On May 16, please vote at the same polling place you have voted in previous elections.

Voters will head to the polls to consider two Kingston City School District propositions: the annual operating budget and a capital improvement project.
Take these steps before you cast your ballot:
Make sure you are registered to vote by searching the state’s Voter Look Up tool.
If you are not registered to vote in New York State with an address in the KCSD, you can take steps to do so by Tuesday, May 2.
If you plan to vote using an absentee ballot, apply by following the directions on the back of the form (links below).
If you plan to vote in person, enter your address and click the Look Up button to confirm your polling place. Please note: The school polling locations may be different from those used for general elections.

Who Can Vote on Tuesday, May 16?
You are qualified to vote on Tuesday, May 16 if you are:
a citizen of the United States;
at least 18 years of age;
not in prison for a felony conviction or be adjudged mentally incompetent by a court;
not claiming the right to vote elsewhere; and
a resident of the Kingston City School District by April 17, 2023.

Register to Vote or Confirm Your Registration
You must be registered to vote in New York State in order to participate on Tuesday, May 16.
To check your registration status, use the search tool provided by the NY State Board of Elections.
If you are not in that database, you can complete and submit a form to register to vote by Tuesday, May 2.

You may also request a voter registration form by calling the Board of Elections at 845-334-5470 or going to the Board of Elections office at 79 Hurley Ave. in Kingston.
Absentee Voting is an Option
Absentee voting is an option for a citizen who cannot cast a ballot at a voting center because that person will be:
absent from Ulster County;
unable to go to a voting center due to temporary or permanent illness or disability;
unable to go to a voting center due to duties as a primary caregiver for someone who is ill or physically disabled;
a resident or patient of a Veterans Health Administration Hospital; or
in jail or prison for any reason other than a felony conviction, including incarceration while awaiting grand jury action or trial, or while serving a sentence for a misdemeanor.
A voter who requests an absentee ballot cannot decide later to vote in person.

Voter absentee ballot applications are available from the Office of the KCSD Clerk (21 Wynkoop Place in Kingston). For more information, contact Karen Seery at 845-943-3003 or kseery@kingstoncityschools.org.
If the application is returned by mail, it must be received by the KCSD Clerk by Tuesday, May 9, 2023, for the ballot to be mailed to the voter.
If the application is delivered in person, it must be received by the KCSD Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on the day before the election – Monday, May 15 – to pick up the ballot.
Applications may be sent in at any time, but ballots will not be mailed out/be able to be picked up until after April 30.
To submit your completed absentee ballot application:
An absentee voter’s ballot will not be counted unless it is received in the office of the KCSD clerk by 5 p.m. on the day of the election: Tuesday May 16, 2023.
Completed ballots may be submitted by mail or dropped off in person at the KCSD Office (21 Wynkoop Place in Kingston ).
Know Your Rights as New York State Voter
If a poll worker does not find your name on the poll list on May 16, you have multiple options to check and exercise your right to vote.
Call the main Board of Elections number at (845) 334-5470. A staff member will access the main voter registration system and research the case.
Complete an affidavit ballot.
It is always your right to vote on a paper affidavit ballot. Also known as provisional ballots, these are used when you believe yourself eligible to vote but cannot submit a regular ballot.
Affidavit ballots will be reviewed after the election by the Board of Elections. Your vote will be counted if you are indeed eligible to vote and are at the correct poll site.
