About me
My name is Chia-Yu (Charles) Wu ( 吳佳瑜). I earned my Ph.D. in Physical Geography at the University of Florida in 2019. My original research interests are to employ GIS (Geographical Information System) tools to model the hydrological, and sedimentation processes; as well as flooding, fluvial and coastal hazards, and human-environmental interaction.
I currently serve as a faculty member at the Department of Geology and Environmental Sciences at the University of Dayton (UD). I am also working with the UD Human Rights Center to map the spatial distributions of humanitarian crises and how to use geospatial tools to understand social justice issues, such as hate speech.
In addition, I was also part of the Fitz Center for Leadership in Community's Faculty Fellows Program from 2022-2024. With their support, I am currently working on understanding the flood resilience and social vulnerabilities of disadvantaged communities in the Dayton area. This study is further supported by the Ohio Water Resource Center now.
