Your basic senior, first semester timeline:
August-September: Scholarships, applications to universities and FSA-ID
October: FAFSA- Financial aid
November, applications, college visits, presentations and meetings with college representatives. Pima application.
December: decisions for universities, if applicable. Military recruiters.
Graduation, caps and gowns, prom and other school related items can be found in Mr. Humprey's office in the Administration building.
ASU priority deadline for (basically everything) is January 15th. This deadline includes FAFSA, Applications and some scholarships. If you are interested in ASU, try to get it all done by the 15th.
FAFSA is still a thing. :) Please reach out to me for help to answer any questions. Current count: 79 completed FAFSAs, 193 senior students have not completed it.
College presentations this semester, for seniors, focus on application workshops, next steps workshops and funding workshops.
The Arizona Community Foundation Scholarship is OPEN! As a reminder, the best parts of this opportunity are:
one application for over 200 scholarships
many of the scholarships can be used at any school, in or out of the state.
many of the scholarships are eligible even if you are not a U.S. citizen.
Step 1: create your FSA-ID (Need your SS#)
Step 2: start your FAFSA application (Need your parents' tax returns for 2020 or some way to show how much money they made in 2020.
English 12- Heagle, Engel
Important items:
You can complete the FAFSA if you have a Social Security Number because you are a U.S. Citizen or have Permanent Resident Status. If you do not have a Social Security Number, you should not complete the FAFSA. There are resources to help pay for college. Please reach out to your counselor or to Mr. Parham with questions.
You need to have an FSA-ID. An FSA-ID is a personal account with the department of education. Ideally, one parent should also have an FSA-ID to make submission faster. If your parent does not have a SS#, then you can still submit a FAFSA. Find more info on the FSA-ID here.
It is best if you can collect your parent(s) 2020 income tax return. You need to know your household income to complete the FAFSA. This is usually done with the income tax return. If your parent(s) do not have a tax return, you can still complete the FAFSA. You will need to know how much money your parents made in 2020. You can find this with pay stubs, bank deposits, or by completing the estimated income section.
If you have a situation where you live with one parent but not the other, you only need to report financial data for the parent you lived with for the last 12 months.
If you have a more complicated home situation, it might be best to make an appointment with Mr. Parham, or talk to your counselor or Gear Up coach.

ACT or SAT scores are not needed for in-state schools but if your score is a good one, including it in your application doesn't hurt.
What is a good ACT or SAT score? Depends on the school. You can complete a quick Google search to see the average score for an incoming freshman. If your score is at or above that, probably worth including it. To repeat, Arizona schools are NOT requiring ACT or SAT scores.
Waiver or code for fee.

Financial Aid Dates
We are approaching the opening of the FAFSA on October 1st.
The FAFSA is an application that students complete to determine eligibility for federal financial aid to help pay for college. It is available to U.S. Citizens or permanent residents who have a social security number. For more information, click here.
Dates to know:
FSA-ID online on September 15th at 6pm. Virtual presentation. Invite your parents!
FAFSA online workshop September 30th at 6pm.
FAFSA in-person workshop (at Amphi) on October 20th at 6pm. Bring your parents!
There is no registration for the online sessions. Just log in. Mr. Parham will be sending the Zoom link to the first session the week of September 7th.
Can't make the virtual sessions but want help? Please reach out to Mr. Parham or your Gear Up coach.
Specific deadlines are not included. I need you to be vocal about what you are thinking related to your plans after graduation. For example, if you are interested in going to ASU, their Raise.me scholarship is due by 9/1. Their application is open.
It is NOT the only option. I want all students to have a clear path, whatever that is.
That said, people who earn college degrees, industry certifications or other advanced training tend to make more money and/or have more opportunity than people who immediately enter a full-time career after high school.
ESL programs at Pima are available at low, medium and high levels. These courses can be paid for with federal financial aid if you are a U.S. Citizen or if you have a green card with a social security number.
ESL programs at the U of A are through a language center called CESL. This is a transition program to help you with your English so that you can successfully move into your major classes.
