Already for some years now, the organisation "Kattendijk Tango" organizes regular Tango and dance events with music from all over the world, in open air at the Kattendijksluice in Antwerpen. Also this year, as a tradition now in Antwerp, the "Antwerpen danst" event continues to have their Tango (on Tuesday) and Worldmusic (on Thursday) Parties. Our special interest of course went to the "Antwerpen Danst Zouk" event on 08/02/2007. aZOUKar, with Karine and Erwin, already dancing for years in different disciplines, and finally ready to share their knowledge with other dancers, were taking Antwerpen towards the world of Zouk(love), the smooth Brazilian version of Zouk with music originating from Angola, Cap Verde and the Antilles.
 
Not an easy task ! In a one hour session, they succeeded in bringing two of the most important zouk-mouvements (a "close position" and "open position" basic) to an enthousiast public. In their demonstration act they gave a clear message that they will certainly go the Brazilan way in teaching : they gave a demonstration of "Samba de Gafieira" (and not "Forro" as I wrote originally) and concluded with a beautiful Zouklove of which you will find the video fragment below ! aZoUKar will start teaching Zouk, starting 18 September at 20h00 @ "Zurenborger", Dageraadplaats 4, 2018 Antwerpen - free initiation on 28/08 ! Check our calendar for further news on Zouk courses... As always the evening continued with a mix of all kinds of world music. As usual the addicts for the special theme (in this case Zouk) considered that there was not enough "of their music", but it goes without doubt that the public knows how to appreciate this initiative... .. and Jef (organisator of this event)... he enjoyed it too ... and .. let's not forget to thank all people that are working hard during the summer to bring Antwerpen this special event !
