| Okay, I'm the first to admit that I'm no poet. I've never taken any interest in studying poetry or taken a class to write it but I've tried my hand at it a few times. These are short reads so I hope you enjoy. More to come if i can find them
Runner’s Anthem
Today I ran farther than I did yesterday Though no one cheered for me at the end Today I kept going when there was nothing left When inertia was not enough, when routine was not enough, when my body didn’t have enough Today I scaled the walls of my doubt and weakness When my finish line was only my driveway Today I competed In a world where you’ve never won unless the other guy knows it Today I punished myself, I showed myself no mercy, I heaved and strided out I strained and I pushed and dung in and teared up and gasped and fought and stepped, stepped And then I ran back And there was no one there at end No fans No respect No looks of admiration I should have kept running
Good Goodbye
Dawn breaks In the morning sky Falls into your eyes The moment I wish wouldn’t find us Not one of those good goodbyes I can’t seem to let you go And end the night in your lullaby
Time reigns In the songs that begin Red paints your skin All the strength you breathe in I ache when it’s gone Don’t want to let you go It the weakness of the dawn
I was just wondering Seeing all those people wandering Squinting their eyes in the young sun All our lives have just begun On that very day But when we meet our deathbeds What will be the moment that’ll be going though our heads?
I watch You watching the light Blessing our night Time will make all things right With the things that you never say I can never let you go Just for the light of
day |
