On April 28, 2009, we got this email: Hi Cathy, My name is Marina and we moved from Brazil almost 2 years ago. Shortly afterwards we adopted a cute and smart white ferret, between 1 and 2 years old, and named him Monet. He is sweet and healthy and gets along with our dog, but we are being moved again to Brazil in July. Our first intention was to take him with us because we love him so much, but Brazil is a very complicated country to bring that kind of animal in. He also would have to be transported (and very expensively) in the cargo compartment of the plane and be confined for more than 12 hours. He gets very scared when he is put in a small place – just to take him to the vet stresses him so much that his heart races and he gets all sweaty in his carry-on cage. I worry he wouldn’t survive the trip. Besides, the only non-stop plane that takes ferrets is not a passenger plane, so he would be all alone until we arrive in another plane. It just seems very unfair to him. I think he would love to play with other ferrets all day long and we would love to sponsor him or other ferrets at the sanctuary.(A promise they have kept.) Please help us do what is best for Monet. Thank you very much. On June 6, 2009, Monet joined the family at Zoo`s Ferret Sanctuary. His family moved to Brazil, comforted by the fact that Monet would be here with us. Monet lives with Addie, Angel, & Georgia, in the "meanie" group (named so, because they often play too roughly for some of the others.) But names can be deceiving. Monet is one of the sweetest ferrets in the room. The mom has returned from Brazil to visit us. We have kept touch, & we all share the love of this beautiful little boy. More later. Love, Zoo |
