(Meeko, Cosmo, Nibbles, Slinky, & Max) In early January of 2006 we got a call from a friend in the ferretcommunity. A friend of
hers in North Dakota was going through a divorce and was unable to have her five
ferrets where she lived. She was devastated. She wanted her bonded group to stay
together and asked for help in making that possible. We agreed to help. My wonderful husband Kurt drove 22 hours round trip to make it happen. Misti's group consists of Meeko, Cosmo, Nibbles, Slinky, and Max. Misti`s group is a closed
group because one of the ferrets in that group will not accept any other ferrets
besides the ones in his group. He is absolutely savage to others but the group
is very nice on the whole. We have emailed pictures and updates to the former mom and her son. We hope for a visit from them one day! All are doing
well at this time. Love, Zoo Meeko, Slinky, Nibbles Cosmo Max UPDATE: January 4th, 2010 It has been four years. After the first few weeks her kids were here, Misty dropped off the face of the earth. Despite the pictures & updates we sent Misti, we never heard from her again. She didn`t even send her babies a bag of treats at Christmas time :( During the past four years, three of Misti`s kids became adrenal, and were put on lupron , Meeko (NOT adrenal) died of liver failure. We lost Nibbles Dec 3, 2008, to the mystery illness that swept our room. Cosmo developed insulinoma. The remaining kids are around 6 years old, and very closely bonded. Still with us, are Cosmo, Max, and Slinky. They`re getting lots of love, and all the best that we can give them. Cosmo & Slinky are doing wonderfully on their lupron. Max has turned nearly all white now. He developed a sudden tumor behind his eye, and because the needle aspirates didn`t show cancer cells, we decided to give him a chance. His appetite is great, and he runs & plays like a kit. It would be sad to cut his life short, and put him to sleep, if the tumor was benign. It was already blind, but he lost his eye today. We have sent it (and the tumor) to the lab, and we`re awaiting results. I want to mention how pleased we are with our vet, Dr. Katie Racek-Peters, at Dogwood Pet Hospital. She is extremely knowledgeable & compassionate. I am honored to sit in on all of our surgeries & necropsies, and I feel as if she & her staff are family, somehow. We`ve been through a lot together. Sometimes life isn`t fair, but a great vet & supportive staff can really help to soften the blows. Max is doing well, for now. He`s already eaten two bowls of soup! More later. Love, Zoo Cosmo Max Slinky Picture taken yesterday, January 3, 2010 UPDATE: The lab report came back. It was cancer :( We don`t know how long it will be until it comes back, but removing the tumor & the eye relieved a great deal of pressure. Max is feeling great, & is doing wonderfully for now. We will just enjoy each day we have together. Isn`t that what it`s all about anyway? Max, 3 weeks post surgery Slinky & Cosmo just got lupron depots again. More later. Love, Zoo |
