About The Club

History Of The Group

In 2002 a Customer of  Jensons, John Hickman, happened to mention he wanted to edit his sons wedding film. That person was Pete Doré. John and Pete became good friends , and used to meet on a Wednesday afternoon at Pete house. I was an idea by John that we formed a camcorder club. Pete visited the council information bureau, where they informed him that The Swindon Film Unit may help. Pete new by experience that the club they were recommended had ceased operating in 1973. So they told Pete to contact Mark Smith at Crea8 Studios, at Swindon's local town hall. It was Mark Smith, who devised the name for the club of ZOOM camcorder club.

We operated from the town hall for about a year, the meeting room was quite small, and we soon out grew it. Our next home was at the Gorse Hill community centre. We stayed there until Jan 2005, when we moved to our New home at the Gorse Hill working men's club . This club went into administration in October 2007. The local church of  Saint Barnabus stepped in, at the last moment, and we have been meeting at the small hall of the church in Criclklade Road Gorse Hill.

The latest member to Join our eight member committee Is James Lilley. James has undertook the role of Web Master, and we hope in time that he will encourage the younger enthusiasts to become regular members
