Zolpidem ReGen

ReGen Therapeutics is the company that holds the Intellectual Property for the use of zolpidem in brain damage.

ReGen have completed a trial in 2007 on a novel zolpidem spray formulation that improves its onset and maximum reponse time from 60 minutes to less than 15 minutes after dose application. While maintaining the positive effects of zolpidem on brain damage, the low dose spray formulation minimizes the sedation effect that is often encountered with tablet formulations in conscious patients.

A second trial in 2008 has shown that zolpidem is highly specific in its mode of action, restoring normal function to suppressed but viable brain (neurodormant brain). Other GABAergic medicines such as zopiclone did not show this effect. The study was published by Hall et al in the Journal of Clinical Neurophisiology in April 2010.
