For 6 years I've been raising money for Heifer International charity. Heifer works, through sustainable agriculture, to help end world hunger. Heifer doesn’t just give money to poor people, but instead gives them animals, such as chickens, goats, or cows, that the people can raise to produce food. The firstborn of every animal gifted by Heifer goes to another needy family--in this way one gift keeps on giving! In 2011, I raised my fifth $5,000 Heifer ark. An ark is 15 pairs of animals that get spread around the world. I raise money by making and selling jewelry, (earrings, rings, and bracelets). I have sold at fairs, churches, synagogues, home sales, by email, at my parent’s offices, and many other places. I design and make the jewelry at home. My prices are $8 for a pair for earrings or a bracelet, and $5 for a ring. I also can give tax deductible receipts for donations (not for jewelry sales!) through my Capital Community Foundation account. The Capital Community Foundation read about my project in the newspaper, and set up an account for me for free. Now, people who know about my project but do not want jewelry can still donate, and get a tax deduction.
