Princess & the Frog :: Installation in NYC, Fall 2003

I am presenting a theme installation, this time  "the princess and the frog" fairy tale, from a personal point of view.

My art in general, and the current project in particular, is dealing with self-exploration, and self-exposure. When I portray myself as "the princess", I am exposing my inner worlds and confronting my inner "demons". It helps me to embrace and except those "demons", eventually, and to grow as a person.

With this exposure, I am trying to evoke awareness and thoughts about the viewers' own personal environments, and about society in general. Interactive art enables me as the artist, to create a multi sensual experience for the visitors. that way, the viewer becomes one of the essential elements in the complicity of my artwork.

In my artwork I'm combining natural elements with fantastic or magical references, along with motives and acknowledgments from and to art history, and play-full elements. I use different styles and methods, and my body of work is eclectic. My prime medium is painting, mainly acrylic and tempera. I often combine texture and assemble found objects my painting. I often combine several media: painting with sculpture and photography to attack a subject from many angles. Multi media enables me as an artist, an absolute freedom of expression and helps me create more complexes body of work. this particular work is a combination of  fragmented pieces  in different mediums and styles , all attach  together by the floor design that limits the visitor motion range and enhances the alternated and alternative space of the installation and its  theme content.

Based on a fairytale by "The Brothers Grimm". Modified from: berkus.net/3dkidscape

Once upon a time, there was a lovely princess. Now on one particularly fine day, the princess strolled with a beautiful golden ball she had received as a gift.
Tossing the ball up and then catching it, she was always careful not to drop it for the idea of losing this precious gift was quite terrible. As the birds sang the princess hummed a tune and wandered toward the pond that lay just ahead. she bobbled the ball and then watched with a grimace as the golden sphere fell. The ball had fallen into the dark water of the pond. On the verge of tears, the princess knelt, looking sadly into the depths of the pond. "Oh, how shall I get my lovely golden ball?"

Just then, an away, something green rose to the surface. It's huge eyes staring at the startled girl. They stared one another for a few moments and then the frog asked why the princess was so sad. "I have lost my golden ball. It rests at the bottom of the pond." She sighed. "I would give anything to have it back."

"I could get the ball for you, milady." The frog said "If I do, would you take me in and make me yours, milady?" The frog asked.

"Yes, Yes. Anything. Just please get my ball." She answered.
"Take care of me? Feed me?" The creature added.
"Yes, of course." She said. Craning her neck to see if the golden ball was at all visible, the princess saw the frog slowly sink down and then watched the water stir as he dove down.
Rubbing her fingers with eagerness, she saw the glint of gold and then the frog appeared with the extended upwards in its hand. As she giggled with glee and took the shiny sphere from the frog.
"Oh how wonderful. I shall have to be more careful from now on." She said and turned away "Princess. You said you would take me with you."
The princess took care of him. Having the frog was so much more than just having a pet. "You know . . . I am almost glad I dropped my golden ball into the pond." She smiled and saw him smiling back, but then he always seemed to be smiling anyway.

"Princess, may I ask you for a favor?"

"All right." The girl said with a little bit of concern.

"Would you kiss me?"
Why would a frog want her to kiss him, she wondered? Fighting a slight grimace at the idea, she finally asked, "Why?" Shrugging, the frog said it just seemed The thing to do, for he truly loved her and he thought that perhaps she loved him. Her face twitched and she almost giggled, because the image she had, were they to kiss, was so silly. "Oh, why not?" the girl sighed heavily and stood up. She picked the frog up, held him at eye level and just like she did when she had to eat, the princess took a deep breath and just did it.

There was an instantaneous popping sound as her lips touched the frogs. A bright light flashed and her eyes opened to see a cloud of puffy white smoke and she was no longer holding the frog. Taking a few steps back, the princess could not figure out what had happened
"Oh my." She said with a small gasp when she saw what was there.
