BJ to drop paper tickets
Single-journey magnetic tickets are expected to be put into use, replacing the current paper ones in late May on all of Beijing's metro lines, the Beijing subway control center said Tuesday. Automatic cashiers to sell and collect the cards are undergoing testing. Each magnetic card will be printed with Beijing's subway map, including the current five lines and four new routes soon to be in use.

Torch Relay plan revealed
Carried by about 208 runners everyday in principle, the Beijing Olympic Flame will traverse China for 97 days, Jiang Xiaoyu, executive vice president of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games, told a news conference Wednesday. Every torchbearer will run within 200 meters, the transmission will be limited to 10 to 12 hours everyday. Famous places and scenic spots of every citiy are all featured in the transmission route.

3月19日下午，北京奥组委执行副主席蒋效愚在新闻发布会上透露，北京奥运圣火在境内传递97天，原则上每天将有208名火炬手进行传递，每个人的路线将在200米以内，每天传递运行大约在10至12小时以内。传递城市的很多标志性场所、风景点都在传递路线中。
105 Lhasa rioters surrender
There were 105 people who have surrendered themselves to police by 11pm Tuesday for involvement in the Lhasa riot that killed 13 innocent civilians. Tibetan law enforcement authorities issued a notice Saturday, urging lawbreakers in Friday's riot to stop criminal activities and offering leniency to those who surrender themselves.

Finnish Foreign Minister Ilkka Kanerva admitted last week he sent about 200 text messages to erotic dancer Johanna Tukiainen. Reports said the 60-year-old minister made an apology over the issue. Monet, Cezanne stolen
Some 30 paintings by masters such as Monet, Cezanne, Corot and Sisley and a Rodin sculpture were stolen in the early hours Monday from an antiques dealer's home near Paris. Police said five masked gunmen broke into the home and fled. A judicial source said once the authenticity of the artworks is confirmed, the heist would be "priceless." The dealer was robbed once before in 2004, but the paintings stolen then were recovered.

US robotics firm Boston Dynamics are developing the allegedly world's most advanced quadrupedal robot, "Big Dog", which has the ability to climb slopes, walk through snow and even over ice, catching itself when it slips and falls. A research institute under Japanese Ministry of Health，Labor and Welfare had followed 28000 non-smoking women aged between 40-69 in Japan's nine districts between 1999-2004, and found women whose husband smoked during that period were one time more likely to get lung cancer than those whose husbands shunned cigarettes.

Sinopec announced Thursday that it had received RMB12.3b subsidy recently, of which RMB4.9b will be reckoned in subsidy income of 2007, and RMB7.4b in Q1 2008. Sinopec said that it has taken measures with its affiliated companies to increase refined oil output and purchase refined oil from local refineries at a high price to ensure domestic oil product supply amid global oil price rises. As a result Sinopec suffers a big loss in its refining business though it maintains a stable market.

The Olympic flame lighting ceremony for the Beijing Games will be rescheduled from the previous local time 12:00 am on Mar 24 to 11:00 am due to the weather problem, George Aidonis, mayor of Ancient Olympia, Greece, said Saturday. Many Chinese stars arrived in Athens Saturday, including singer Lee-Hom Wang, one of the torchbearers, and movie star Zhang Ziyi, who was invited to attend the ceremony.

India test-fired its nuclear-capable missile Agni-I from a military base off the eastern state of Orissa Sunday. The Agni-I missile, which is 15m long and weighs 12 tons, can travel up to 700km and carry both conventional and nuclear warheads.
