A Vienna-based global network of seismic and radionuclide sensors has found no evidence that China's complex of nuclear facilities in the quake zone let any radioactivity escape, International Herald Tribune reported Friday. The finding supports reassurances made by China, US and France 1 week earlier that the May 12 earthquake resulted in no nuclear releases.
《国际先驱论坛报》报道，总部在维也纳的国际地震及核安全监测机构日前证实，未发现四川震区核设施泄露。这一发现同中美法三国环境监测组织一周前得出的结论一致。

75 climbers summitted Mt. Qomolangma Thursday from her south side in Nepal, achieving the largest number of climbers scaling the top of the world in a single day. The former record was 64 people. Among the 75 climbers, 46 are Nepalis and 29 foreigners.

The 3 bases, R&D centre, integrating centre and parts-producing centre, of China's first jumbo jet company might well be located in the Pudong of Shanghai, Oriental Morning Post reports. The locations are waiting for further confirmation by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China.

Chengdu Family Planning Commission recently issued an emergency circular, offering supportive family planning policy to one-child families whose children were maimed or lost in the earthquake disaster. For the parents who are still in childbearing years, they are permitted to have another child. And if one parent is aged over 50, both spouses will enjoy an RMB600 grant per person per year. Nulliparous couples who decide to adopt earthquake orphans can still hold the right to have a child.

Those who lost their houses, production materials and stable income are entitled to RMB10 and 0.5 kg of grain per day for 3 months, while the orphans, childless elders and disabled people will each get RMB600 per month for 3 months.

150000 people were relocated from the area downstream of the swelling Tangjiashan dammed lake by midnight Tuesday. An emergency plan is being carried out at the lake with the aid of 20 loads of airdropped construction equipment. A mini-DVD was attached to NASA Mars Phoenix Lander. The DVD will be put down on the Mars in the coming days as a time capsule containing a message to future Martian explorers. The DVD includes science fictions, paintings and a name list of Mars fans.

Popular former Japan TBS TV announcer Ako Kawada (see photo), 29, was found dead in a car Monday, apparently from suicide by burning charcoal briquettes. On her blog, Kawada had said she was worn out and needed a break. A suicide note left for her family expressed her remorse for taking her own life.

Experts in the US are planning to compile a sign language multi-media dictionary consisting of 3000 sign language entries. With the dictionary, users can easily find the meaning of the gestures made by fingers, arms and even facial expression by facing a computer installed with the dictionary software.
