The confirmed national death toll reached 12300 by 2 am Wednesday, nearly all of them in Sichuan. Another 9404 were buried in debris, 7841 were missing and 26206 people were injured. In Yingxiu town of Wenchuan, around 3000 people, out of the town's total population of 12000, were known to have survived.
截至14日凌晨2点，地震已造成12300人死亡，其中绝大多数在四川。另有9404人被废墟掩埋，7841人失踪，26206人受伤。汶川映秀镇常住人口1.2万，目前仅3000余人幸存。
Wolong pandas unscathed
卧龙86只熊猫安然无恙
The 86 giant pandas at the Wolong center in Sichuan were all safe after Monday's powerful earthquake, the State Forestry Administration confirmed Tuesday. All the baby pandas have been transported to safe places.
国家林业局最新消息，卧龙自然保护区饲养繁育的86只大熊猫无伤亡，幼仔已全被转移至地势开阔安全的沙湾。
Donations rush in
社会各界踊跃捐款赈灾
Donations from in and out of China have started to pour into the quake-hit areas. All-China Women Federation gave RMB5m, and insurance companies contributed a total of RMB47m. Overseas Chinese businesspeople have donated RMB68.5m. Macao will donate RMB100m. Taiwan's Ma Ying-jeou contributed NTD200000(RMB45157), and Yao Ming RMB500000. The Thai government will provide $200000(RMB1.4m), while the Japanese government 500m yen(RMB33.6m).(See photo)

Storms bring more fears
震区一周内有三次雷雨
Three thunderstorms are forecast to hit the earthquake-stricken areas in Sichuan, Chongqing, southern Gansu and southwestern Shaanxi, according to the Central Meteorological Observatory. Efforts were urged to prevent mudslides and landslides which are made much more likely by rainfall after an earthquake.
中央气象台最新实况监测显示，未来一周四川、重庆、甘肃南部、陕西西南部等地震灾区将有三次雷雨或阵雨。由于地震造成土质岩石结构疏松，一旦遇雨，易产生泥石流、山体滑坡等地质灾害，气象台提醒抗震救灾同时加强防范地质灾害。

The Olympic torch relay will kick off in Ruijin, the first leg in Jiangxi Wednesday. The 18.6km relay starts from the Yeping Red Army Square and involves 208 torchbearers, including 2 veterans who took part in the Long March. Ruijin is known as the cradle of the People's Republic of China and the starting point of the famed Long March of the Red Army.

Iraqi security forces found documents purported to belong to the al-Qaeda terrorist network which include names of 6000 alleged suicide bombers, most of whom are Arabs and 15 are women, Iraqi media reported recently. Women carried out 4 suicide bombings in the last 2 months in Iraq.

Premier Wen Jiabao headed for Wenchuan, epicenter of the quake, by helicopter Wednesday afternoon after overseeing rescue work in Beichuan County, one of the regions worst hit by earthquake, in the morning. "Time is life," Wen stressed and urged rescuers to do their utmost to rescue survivors. He also expressed appreciation to several American volunteers who joined in the disaster relief.

The People's Bank of China announced on Wednesday that it would provide RMB5.5b in financing to the areas of Sichuan and Gansu provinces that were hardest hit by Monday's deadly earthquake. Sichuan and Gansu got RMB3.3b and 2.2b respectively.

7 PLA helicopters had delivered 9.1 tons of disaster relief goods to Wenchuan and its neighbouring counties by 1 pm Wednesday. The goods included satellite communication systems, medicines and quilts. The helicopters also carried 45 injured people to hospital. The first batch of 100 elite soldiers parachuted into cut-off Maoxian County, northeast of Wenchuan on 12:20 pm Wednesday.

The situation in Yingxiu Town of Wenchuan County was worse than expected with traffic cut off and children buried in debris, according to local government officials who trecked into the area. Many towns and villages around Wenchuan County have been leveled to the ground, a staff officer of an armed police troop said.

32 of 45 Shanghai-listed companies based in Sichuan and Chongqing resumed stock trading Wednesday, and so did 2 Shenzhen-listed companies. The Shanghai and Shenzhen stock markets suspended Tuesday the trading of 66 companies in the earthquake-hit region that the exchanges could not contact.
14日，沪市四川、重庆两震区的45家公司中，已有32家股票复牌，深市有2家复牌。受汶川地震影响，13日起共66家川渝上市公司因与两交易所失去联系而停牌。

Groups, companies and individuals in Hong Kong SAR have collected over RMB200m for quake-hit areas, including Li Ka Shing Foundation's RMB30m and celebrities Jackie Chan and Albert Yeung's combined RMB10m. More than 20 mainland enterprises contributed over RMB10m, including China Construction Bank (RMB20m), China Southern Airlines (RMB20m), China Life (RMB16m) and Agricultural Bank of China (RMB15m).

Elite airborne troopers parachuted to counties close to the epicenter Wednesday afternoon as the confirmed nationwide death toll continued to climb reaching 14866 by 2 pm Wednesday. 14463 were in Sichuan, with another 25788 still buried in debris. More than 20000 were out of reach in Anxian County due to large-scale mountain landslides and house collapses.

Mudslides add to woes
泥石流泛滥水库现险情
Large-scale mountain landslides that were blocking river ways have resulted in a lake of mudslides in Hongguang Town, Qingchuan County, threatening the security of local residents. Mountain collapses are now more likely once the water level rises, an official said. In Chongqing, 51 reservoirs have reported such danger after Monday's earthquake.
由于大面积山体滑坡造成河道堵塞，四川青川县红光乡现已形成大片湖面，周边百姓安全受到严重威胁。当地官员表示，一旦水位上涨，可能造成山体崩塌。在重庆，5.12地震已使51座水库出现险情。

Jin posted an allegedly true picture of a department store building on a forum and claimed its top collapsed, which was found to be Jin's speculation. Tang released a picture about an escape scene of residents in Sichuan, who police found were welcoming the Olympic flame.

映秀镇今再遭强烈余震
Yingxiu Town in Wenchuan County was hit by a strong aftershock this morning, leading to the collapse of houses and landslides at a nearby mountain. 2/3 of the houses in Yingxiu were destroyed Monday.
汶川县映秀镇15日上午再次发生强烈余震，上次地震中未倒塌的房屋出现倒塌，附近山体滑坡。映秀镇在12日的大地震中损失惨重，2/3房屋被毁。
5500 survivors rescued
5500人获救5万被转移
As of 8:00 am Thursday, police had pulled more than 5500 earthquake survivors from the debris. Elsewhere more than 50000 people had been evacuated from Wenchuan and other badly hit regions including Dujiangyan, Beichuan and Maoxian in Sichuan and Longnan in Gansu.

Reports say that army troops have opened a water route and transported more than 800 people this morning. In addition, the highway linking Beichuan with Mianyang was broken through, allowing heavy rescue machines to enter Beichuan.

Saudi Arabia has decided to donate $50m in cash and $10m worth of relief materials. UK will provide about $2m in aid. China has accepted Japan's offer to send an emergency response team to the quake-stricken areas. Russia's second batch of humanitarian aid arrived in Chengdu by plane Thursday morning consisting of 60.96 tons of tents, quilts and other materials.

BOCOG said that the Olympic torch relay will join in earthquake relief activities around China in the coming months. In Jiangxi, participants observed a minute of silence for the victims before the relay. The torch relay finished the Jinggangshan leg Thursday, and will take place in Nanchang tomorrow.

Rescuers finished repairs on the quake-damaged road from Lixian County to Wenchuan at 9 pm Thursday, allowing the entry of relief materials and vehicles into the epicenter for the first time. The other roads into Wenchuan County had been blocked, making rescue work difficult.

50000 people feared dead

Official sources said more than 50000 people are feared dead in Monday's earthquake as the confirmed death toll in Sichuan alone hit 19509 by 4 pm Thursday. Around 10000 medical staff from different parts of China are providing medical services and supervising sanitation and epidemic prevention in quake-stricken areas. 64040 people have so far been hospitalized in Sichuan.

Postal services had also resumed in some of the worst hit counties, such as Dujiangyan and Mianzhu.

A public memorial was held online Sunday afternoon for those who died in the devastating May 12 earthquake. The ceremony was formally launched at 2:28 pm on china5000.org.cn. People can lay virtual wreaths for the dead and leave online messages of condolences to victims' families and encourage them to rebuild their lives. The ceremony will last one day, after which an online museum will be set up to permanently remember those victims.

No epidemic in quake areas

As of Saturday night, no epidemic or emergent public health incidents have been reported in areas affected by the earthquake which struck Sichuan on May 12, the Ministry of Health said Sunday.

Peru mourns for victims

The Peruvian government Friday passed a supreme ordinance, declaring May 19 as a national mourning day for Chinese earthquake victims. This is the first time Peru will mourn for another country. The Peruvian national flag will be raised at half-mast in governmental, military and public buildings all over the country and its overseas missions.

A man was rescued at 9:15 am Sunday from a collapsed hospital in Beichuan, 139 hours after the May 12 earthquake. The man, named Tang Xiong, was only slightly bruised and still conscious when he was pulled out. His wife was rescued Thursday.
