The Olympic flame arrived in Sanya, Hainan, Saturday after going to Hong Kong and Macao. The torch relay will start from Phoenix Island and finish at the End of the Earth in Sanya Sunday, covering a route of 30km. China's skating Olympic champion Yang Yang will be the first of 208 torchbearers, including officials, businesspeople and show-biz figures.
奥运圣火结束港澳传递后，5月3日晚抵达海南三亚。4日的传递从凤凰岛开始，在著名景区天涯海角结束，全程约30公里。共有包括官员、商界和演艺界名人在内的208名火炬手参与传递，第一棒是短道速滑运动员、奥运冠军杨扬。

Virus hits 4529 kids in Anhui
安徽手足口病升至4529
The number of cases of hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) rose to 4529 Saturday in 15 cities in Anhui. The Ministry of Health forecasted Saturday that cases of HFMD would possibly increase in the following months since June and July are the peak seasons for the disease known as EV71. Mainly afflicting kids, HFMD usually starts with a slight fever followed by blisters and ulcers in the mouth and rashes on the hands and feet.
截至3日，安徽15市手足口病例升至4529。卫生部称疫情由EV71感染引起，6至7月是发病高峰，部分地区疫情可能上升。手足口病患者以婴幼儿为主，主要表现为发热和手、足、口腔等部位皮疹或疱疹。

Traffic on the Hangzhou Bay Bridge was congested Friday, the first day after it opened, as many drivers stopped to take photos or drove slowly. A rear-end collision of 10 cars also occurred due to the congestion. The situation has improved after management departments took effective measures.
杭州湾跨海大桥2日首次通车。由于很多驾驶员停车拍照或减速行驶，使大桥出现长时间拥堵，甚至发生10车追尾的严重交通事故。在相关管理部门努力下，目前拥堵有所改善。

Food crisis looms for Japan

The price of milk, soy sauce, bread, noodles and cooking oil have all risen, and butter has already disappeared from supermarket shelves in April as the global food crisis begins to bite Japan. Retailers warn that other goods could follow soon. The crisis is the first of its kind to affect Japanese consumers since the oil crisis in the early 1970s.

Heavy rain hit most parts of Hubei Saturday. Wuhan saw 2200 lightning strikes and received its first rainstorm this year. Downpours or rainstorms will hit most of southern China, east of the Yellow, Huaihe and Yangtze river valleys and the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau in the next 3 days, said the Central Meteorological Station Saturday.

Largest China national flag

A giant national flag, 88.88 meters long and 59.6 meters wide, made its debut at the Olympic Torch relay in Sanya, Hainan Sunday. It is the largest Chinese national flag in the world, bigger than 12 basketball courts. From Sanya, the torch will travel the Wuzhi Mountain, Wanning, Qionghai and reach Haikou, the last stop in Hainan, on May 6, covering a route of 92 km.

People aged 14-28 in China will have a half-day holiday on Youth Day (May 4), according to the Legal Affairs Office of the State Council. But as it's not compulsory, employees in most governmental bodies, foreign and private companies didn't enjoy the holiday, and neither did many middle school students.

Microsoft was willing to pay $33 per share, but Yahoo demanded at least $37 per share, according to a letter from Microsoft CE0 Steve Ballmer to Yahoo CE0 Jerry Yang.

About 50 passengers were aboard the No. 842 bus when it caught fire along the Huangxing Road in the Yangpu district. Witnesses at the scene said it appeared that the fire broke out at the back of the bus. The fire was put out within half an hour and the cause of the fire was under investigation. Normal traffic resumed at around 10:30 am, after police moved away the wreckage.

Phase 3 of Olympic ticket sales for the Chinese mainland kicked off at 9:00 am Monday, and by 9:30, tickets for four competition sessions had sold out. Tickets are sold on a "first come, first serve" basis during this phase, so many people queued up at the Bank of China's outlets at midnight. Many ordered tickets on the Olympic ticketing website, but after submitting their orders, there were some delays and some didn't even get the tickets they requested.

The Olympic permit, effective for 90 days, expires on September 23.

Zhang Zhijian, spokesman of the Chinese Mountaineering Team, announced Tuesday the squad to carry the Olympic flame to the top of Mount Qomolangma. The 36-member team includes 24 ethnic Tibetans, 10 Han Chinese, 1 from Tu ethnic group and 1 from Tujia ethnic group. The captain of the team is the famous alpinist Wang Yongfeng. The team, with an average age of 30.2 years, will also have 3 female climbers.

Seven suspected H5N1 human cases have been reported to local authorities as of Wednesday morning in Seoul after the outbreak of the deadly disease was confirmed in the city earlier, South Korean media reported. The country has confirmed 34 cases of the H5N1 strain in poultry in about a month.

19 Chinese mountaineers left the top of Mt. Qomolangma 10 am Thursday after staying at the summit for one hour. Putin named as Russian PM

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev Wednesday formally nominated Vladimir Putin as his PM. State Duma, the lower house of parliament, is expected to confirm the appointment at an extraordinary plenary session that began at noon today. Putin, 55, has vowed to remain PM as long as he is needed.
俄总统梅德韦杰夫7日正式提名前总统普京为政府总理。俄国家杜马已于今天中午召开特别会议讨论这一任命，预计会顺利批准。55岁的普京此前表示，如果必要他愿出任总理。

Argenteuil, beside the Seine River in Paris, was a centre for pleasure boating among affluent Parisians.
