The chartered plane carrying the Beijing Olympic Flame arrived on early Friday in Bangkok. 80 torch bearers will run through a 10.4km-long route starting at Chinatown in the Thai capital this afternoon. Thai Princess Sirindhorn, who enjoys Chinese culture deeply and speaks fluent Mandarin, will attend the torch relay.

Chinese expatriates and students in France are planning a 4-hour peaceful demonstration Saturday in Paris to express support for the Beijing Olympics and establish the truth about Tibet. About 10000 people are expected to join the rally. Similar events were scheduled for the same day in London and Berlin.
在法华人留学生计划在19日举行4小时和平示威，支持北京奥运，澄清西藏问题。约1万名来自法国各地的华人将参加示威游行。同期，伦敦和柏林的华人也将举行类似活动。
Olympic deal with Sohu

China Daily on Friday signed a strategic partnership agreement with Sohu.com on coverage of the Olympics. Sohu.com is the official sponsor of Internet content services for the Games. Typhoon Neoguri weakened into a tropical storm Sarurday after hitting Hainan Friday. About 3000 passengers were stranded at Haikou airport after 76 flights were canceled. 21800 fishing boats sheltered in safe places and 56 fishermen remained missing. The storm was on course to hit southern Guangdong Saturday afternoon.

French ambassador feels regret

Herve Ladsous, the French ambassador to China, said Friday that he would like to meet Jin Jing, the disabled Chinese torch bearer who was attacked in Paris during the Olympic torch relay, to express his regret over the disruption. "The mayor of Paris should take responsibility," Ladsous said.

Son of military chief killed
荷司令之子阿富汗阵亡
The son of the new chief of the Dutch military, Peter van Uhm (see photo), who took over command Thursday, was killed in an explosion in Afghanistan Friday, while serving with NATO-led forces. Taliban insurgents claimed responsibility for the blast. Currently, there were no indications that the attack was specifically targeted at the 23-year-old son of the chief.

The world's automakers unveiled their latest models at a special media opening of the 2008 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition Sunday. Altogether 890 vehicles, including 55 concept cars, are on show at the new China International Exhibition Center. A record 9000 journalists, including 1000 from abroad, will cover the tenth Beijing auto show, which opens to the public from April 22 to 28.

Tourists will be offered cheaper tour packages for the May Day holiday. For the first time, travel agencies have lowered prices for May Day, since the holiday has been shortened to three days. Three people were confirmed dead as Typhoon Neoguri battered Guangdong with heavy rains and strong winds, said the provincial flood control headquarter Sunday. More than 1000 people threatened by a massive landslide in Xingshan County, Hubei, have been evacuated, local authorities said Sunday night. The US State Department found defense contractor Northrop Grumman provided critical source codes of Air Force One's navigation software to a Russian company in 1998, US media reported April 19. Lawyers want CNN apology

14 lawyers with Beijing Huanzhong Law Firm recently filed a complaint against CNN and its commentator Jack Cafferty to Chaoyang District Court. The plaintiffs accused Cafferty and CNN of violating their reputation and dignity by making derogatory remarks about Chinese people. The lawyers asked the court to rule that CNN and Cafferty stop their injurious act and make a public apology. They also claimed RMB100 compensation for emotional damage.
日前，北京环中律师事务所14名律师到朝阳区法院递交状告美国CNN和主持人卡弗蒂的诉状。原告表示，卡弗蒂的辱华言论严重侵犯和践踏了原告作为中国人的名誉和尊严，给原告的精神和心理造成严重伤害。他们请求法院判决CNN和卡弗蒂停止侵害行为；在媒体上公开道歉，并赔偿精神损失100元人民币。
Torch relay in Jakarta

The Olympic torch relay began the 14th leg of its journey in Jakarta, starting at 14:00 local time Tuesday. 80 torchbearers including world badminton champion Taufik Hidayat took part in the event.
当地时间22日14时(北京时间15时)，北京奥运圣火在印度尼西亚首都雅加达开始传递，共有80名火炬手参与传递，其中包括印尼著名羽毛球运动员、雅典奥运会男单冠军陶菲克。
Fund managers banned for life
证监会首罚基金'老鼠仓'
The China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) Monday handed a fine of RMB500000 each to two fund managers and confiscated their incomes accrued from insider trading. Tang Jian and Wang Limin made large profits using insider information from their companies and have been investigated since March. They are also barred from working in the securities market for life. This is the first time punishment was handed down on insider trading from the CSRC on fund managers.
中国证监会21日公布了对基金经理唐建和王黎敏的处罚决定:没收其非法所得，各处50万元罚款，并对两人实行市场禁入。这两人曾利用职务之便违规操作以牟取暴利。这是证监会对基金"老鼠仓"开出的第一张罚单。
26 fishermen rescued
海南26名遇险渔民获救
Eighteen Chinese fishermen have been rescued after seeking shelter from strong gales brought by Typhoon Neoguri by hiding at a lighthouse for nearly 30 hours. The 18 people were among the 26 rescued Chinese fishermen who returned to Sanya Monday. So far another 18 Chinese and 22 Vietnamese fishermen are still missing.
今年1号台风"浣熊"上周袭击海南时，不少渔民因渔船被狂风击沉而遇险。21日，26名获救渔民返回海南三亚，其中18人是躲到礁盘的灯塔上近30个小时后获救的。但目前仍有18名中国渔民和22名越南渔民失踪。

Barrier-free facilities including lifts and a wheelchair ramp are being built at the Badaling section of the Great Wall to help disabled visitors enjoy the tourist site, according to the Beijing Morning Post. A 180-meter-long wheelchair ramp has been completed and the installation of lifts is underway, to carry the wheelchairs to a height of eight meters.
据《北京晨报》报道，为协助残疾人登长城，北京八达岭长城开始安装直通升降电梯，并铺设无障碍缓坡。目前，一条总长180米的无障碍坡道已修建完成，直通升降电梯正加紧安装，预计可直接将残疾人轮椅运送到约8米的高度。

The Hong Kong SAR government Tuesday announced a plan to invest HK$39.5b in the construction of the Hong Kong section of Guangzhou-Shenzhen-HK Express Rail Link (ERL), the first high-speed railway in Hong Kong. The project of track where trains can reach speed of 200kph is expected to start next year and be completed earliest in 2014. It will help cut the journey time between Hong Kong and Guangzhou to 48 mins.
香港特区政府22日宣布，计划出资395亿港币兴建广深港高速铁路香港段，工程预计明年动工，最快2014年完工。这一铁路将是香港首条高速铁路，时速可达200公里。高铁通车后，从香港到广州只需48分钟。
Eastern loses routes

The southwest branch of the CAAC announced Tuesday that China Eastern Airlines' rights to two routes - Kunming to Xishuangbanna and Kunming to Dali - will be withdrawn from May 4. These rights will be transferred to Air China, Shenzhen Airlines, Lucky Air and West Air. The decision follows the "flight returns" incidents.
