How long was your trip?

Investigate:  We're visiting the Old City of Jerusalem — ירושלים העתיקה.  Load Google Earth to find out how far away it is from you. Use the pushpins and rulers to see how many kilometers you traveled. How does it compare to our Walk with Israel (8 km)? How long would it take to walk from your house to ירושלים?

There were two Jewish Temples (ביתי המקדש) in ירושלים.  The first one was built by King Solomon nearly 3000 years ago and it stood for more than 400 years.  It was destroyed by the Babylonians.  The בית המקדש was rebuilt a short time later.  This second בית המקדש stood for more than 500 years before it was destroyed by the Romans.  In this activity we're going to follow the stories of prophets who lived during the time of the first בית המקדש

Investigate: ירושלים became a Jewish city 3000 years ago.  At that time, it looked very different than it looks today.  You can see how ירושלים has changed by clicking here. Can you find the borders of ירושלים העתיקה as they are today? What about in King David's time?  Compare it to the bird's eye view from Google Earth.

ירושלים Today!  Check out these amazing panoramic views of ירושלים העתיקה as it appears today...

Activity: Be a נביא!

1.  Start your journey back in time to ancient ירושלים here. This is what ירושלים probably looked like before King Solomon built the בית המקדש.  Take the virtual tour and move the slider on the large picture in the screen back and forth to see where the original city of ירושלים was.  Is ancient ירושלים what you expected?

2.  A "prophet" (נביא) is someone who is moved by the spirit of God to make sure that the people of Israel are fulfilling the ברית — God's ethical code.  In ancient times, נביאים made sure that kings, queens and ordinary people behaved properly.  In the Kids' Cartoon Bible, read the stories of the נביאים Isaiah and Jeremiah (pgs. 94-98).  Were the people behaving according to God's ברית?  What were Isaiah's complaints?  What were Jeremiah's complaints?

3.  If Isaiah or Jeremiah lived today they would probably have people working for them to help spread their messages.  If you could plan a public relations campaign for Isaiah or Jeremiah, what would it look like?  On your own or with a partner, you can...
  • Create a newspaper ad or a poster, or
  • Record a radio commercial, or
  • Create a video commercial
4.  To help you along, fill out this form from the New Jew Review Ad Agency.  Make sure you include quotes from Isaiah and Jeremiah in your ad campaign!
