This is our group's poster child, Rambo. Rambo was found by Debbie when he was about 3-4 months old and weighed only about 3.5 pounds. Over the years, his liver shunt went undiagnosed by 4 different vets. Debbie, his owner, refused to accept their grim findings. He was finally properly diagnosed & had the corrective surgery. But, due to the long missed diagnosis, his kidneys & bladder became severely impaired. Deb sought more information to get the best care for Rambo and she cared for him any way possible with diet and alternative medicine techniques in addition to his modern medicine approach. Her daughter, Amy, contacted Terri Shumsky & Maria Lelinho to ask them if there was a group online where owner's could go for support, education & information. This is how this original support group began.
In spite of everything, Rambo continued to thrive for a number of years. Sadly, he went to the Rainbow Bridge, ultimately due to kidney complications that were secondary to his liver shunt. In the evening of May 18, 2006 at about 8:15pm, Rambo's fight against the ravages of liver shunt and kidney failure ended peacefully at age 10 years old. He was surrounded by his dedicated mommy, Debbie, loving fur-sisters, his human family, Dr. Donna and Nurse Megan who came to the house to help ease his journey to the Rainbow Bridge. He passed peacefully in his mother's arms. Please learn from all that Rambo and Debbie went through - serum bile acid testing is the most approved, reliable method for detecting liver shunt and MVD. A quick and correct diagnosis can save your pet and bring longevity to them.
Rambo was the exeception to the rule and continually beat the odds, adding years to his life. He was valiant & never faultered in his sweet disposition & outward love that he gave to all who knew him. His fight for life still gives hope to the masses of liver shunt victims everywhere.
You are forever in our hearts, Rambo. Sleep with the angels knowing you are missed terribly, our little hero, and that your legacy lives on.
If Rambo could speak he would tell you to BILE ACID TEST without hesitation!
