As in previous years, students are encouraged to bring drafts of their bills for discussion (this is not required). In bill discussion groups, bills will be examined to ensure that they are debatable, well researched, original, applicable, feasible, understandable, properly funded, and that they use proper grammar. If students do not have draft bills, we will also host brainstorming discussion groups.
There will also be elections for each district’s nominee for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, President of the Senate and Speaker of the House, as well as those serving on the Supreme Court and other positions including couriers, timekeepers for the House and Senate and aides for the Governor and Lieutenant Governor. All students wishing to run for these positions are also required to bring a bill.
We will also be selecting an Attorney General for the Supreme Court this year. Applications will be due at Pre-LEG. The application can be found in the Forms section of the website. For more information on the position, please see the 2012 Youth LEG Handbook posted on the LA Y&G website.
Applications for the Paper, Video Press Corps and Cabinets will be collected.
