A Message from John---

Hello everyone!

Our next YLO Ambassador general meeting will be this Sunday, January 4, from 1 to 3 PM, at the AIM Institute.   Creighton University is closed for the holidays.

For those of you who haven’t been to AIM, the address is 1905 Harney Street (19th and Harney Streets in downtown Omaha).  The main entrance to the building faces Harney Street and is covered by a black awning that reads, “The Exchange Building.”  Parking is available at metered stalls all around the building – and remember – on Sundays you don’t need to plug the meters.

The security system automatically locks the front doors on the weekends, but Jean Munger will be inside the front doors to let you in when you arrive (from 12:45 to 1:05 PM).  After you enter the building you’ll take the elevator to the 7th floor.  Exit left off of the elevator, go into AIM’s offices, and take the first right into the conference room.

The main agenda items will include:
  • Continued planning for the Youth Forum
  • Discussion of the Two Million Minutes event
  • Discussion of additional community service projects
  • Discussion of Infotec 2009 opportunity

If you arrive at AIM and there isn’t anyone at the front doors to let you in, please call Jean on her cell phone at 319-8062.

Thanks!

--John

YLO Ambassadors T-shirts and Hoodies Now Available!

posted Sep 2, 2008 10:32 AM by John Jeanetta

As decided at the August 3, 2008 meeting, YLO Ambassador t-shirts were designed and approved to include the YLO Ambassadors logo on the front (left pocket area) and the AIM and Creighton University College of Business Administration logos on the back.  The shirts are white and the logos are dark blue.  Also, as decided during this last meeting, AIM purchased the shirts up front.  Each student wanting a shirt will simply need to purchase one from AIM.  Lastly, given the rapid approach of fall and cooler weather, hoodies (white with dark blue logos) were also purchased.  The t-shirts are $10 and the hoodies are $20.  When ordering, please be sure to indicate the size you'd prefer.  The t-shirts and the hoodies are available in the following sizes: small, medium, large, x-large, and xx-large.

To make the purchase of your shirt and/or hoodie as simple as possible, a variety of options are available:
  1. Bring cash or a check (payable to the AIM Institute) to the next YLO Ambassadors meeting on Sunday, September 7, 1 to 4 p.m., at the Creighton University Skutt Student Center (Room 105).
  2. Send a check (payable to the AIM Institute) to John Jeanetta, AIM Institute, 1905 Harney Street, Suite 700, Omaha, NE 68102.
  3. Visit shop.aiminstitute.org.  Click on "YLO Ambassadors" under the product categories on the left and then select the t-shirt and/or hoodie you'd like to purchase.  You can complete your purchase with Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or PayPal.
Contact John Jeanetta at 345-5025, x127 (work), 505-0548 (cell), or john@aiminstitute.org, if you have any questions.

Amazing Opportunity for Volunteer Recognition!

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial and administered by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, are designed to honor middle and high school students for volunteer community service.

Eligible applicants include any young person in the United States who is in grades five through twelve and who has engaged in a volunteer activity that occurred at least partly during the 12 months prior to the date of application.

Local honorees are selected in November, and from these winners two state honorees are chosen in each state and the District of Columbia. Out of the state honorees, ten national honorees are selected and announced at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., in May of 2009. State Honorees receive an award of $1,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for national recognition events. National Honorees receive an additional award of $5,000.

2008 Walk for Inclusion

posted Aug 7, 2008 1:33 PM by John Jeanetta

As we discussed at our last meeting, the first YLO Ambassador service project will be to participate in the Conference for Inclusive Communities' "2008 Walk for Inclusion" event.  Co-Vice President Amor Habbab is coordinating YLO Ambassadors involvement in this activity, so please e-mail Amor directly if you'd like to participate.  Amor can be reached at  amor_lhg@hotmail.com.

Will Hurd, Co-chair of the Communications Committee, is working with John Jeanetta to have YLO Ambassador t-shirts made prior to this event.  The AIM Institute will purchase the t-shirts up front and then those Ambassadors wanting a shirt will be able to purchase one from AIM.  Information regarding the cost will be made available as soon as the order is finalized.  John will attend the event and will bring the t-shirts with him so everyone who chooses to participate can proudly wear a YLO t-shirt on this day.

Last year, the YLO Ambassadors who participated in the Youth in Philanthropy program awarded the Conference for Inclusive Communities a small grant to support their highly successful IncluCity program.  For more information about the Conference for Inclusive Communities, please visit their website at www.cficonline.org.

All general YLO Ambassador Meetings will be held on the first Sunday of every month, from 1 to 4 p.m., at Creighton University.  In order to avoid holiday conflicts, the meeting in July (and most likely September) will be moved to the second Sunday of the month.

Specific building and room locations for the meetings will be announced once those reservations have been completed at Creighton.
