 Recycling Resources

in the Tricities Area

Prescott, Prescott Valley, & Chino Valley

Click Here to Download as a PDF Brochure

 Quick Facts:

  • Recycling saves both energy and material resources.  A recent study conducted by the Technical University of Denmark and the Danish Topic Centre found that, in 83% of the cases investigated, recycling was the most efficient way to dispose of waste material.
  • Some materials are more efficient to recycle than others.  To produce a product out of recycled aluminum, for example, uses only about 5% of the energy that it costs to produce the same product from new aluminum, making aluminum one of the most recyclable materials.  Paper, on the other hand, uses about 60% of the energy required to create a new product--definitely not as good as aluminum, but still a big reduction in cost.
  • Recycling can result in the reduction of new material that must be used.  In the case of paper, that means harvesting fewer trees.
  • According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the US only recycles about 32.5% of its waste.  But there is plenty of room for optimism, as the EPA also reports that this is almost twice what it was 15 years ago!
Useful Recycling Websites:

  • Has a search service for finding recycling services in your area.  Just be aware that the information (like phone numbers) may be incomplete or out-of-date.

  • Ever wanted to know what those little numbers mean?  This Wikipedia entry has that information, along with more about plastic than you probably want to know!
