Xtreme Possums Junior Netball Team 2007 Summer Possums
Click picture to enlarge More 2007 summer pictures here! -------------------------------------------------------------- March 2008 Xtreme Possums - End of an Era The Xtreme Possums Junior Netball Team has come to an end. Over the past 9 years, there have only been 14 talented girls who have had the honour of wearing the fluoro orange, Xtreme Possum colours while there have been many other players wanting to join along the way. The Possums have had a remarkably successful time for a team that hasn't been a part of a bigger club. Over the past nine years they have appeared in the finals on many occasions. The dedication of the girls and their familes has been fantastic. Some of the girls are continuing their netballing in various levels of the game, we all wish them much success. Thanks to Lindsay our Coach, who over the 9 years has instilled in these girls their on court confidence, skills and at all times, fairness, sportsmanship, goodwill and best of all, fun. If you see the fluoro orange on court, it is likely to be one of the Xtreme Possum family, be it the Mixed Team, the Monday Possums at Doveton or the Sunday Possums at Cranbourne, some of these seperate Possum teams have been around for a long time and shows how far the family of Xtreme Possums has reached over the years. Again, thanks to everyone especially the girls who have made their families proud, Lindsay who has steered the girls over the years and finally, thank you to 'The Bench', the parents, families and supporters who have been there following the Possums week in and week out. 27 February 2008 Grand Final to Go ! Possums stand tall against Lightning. Congratulations on making the Grand Final ! The Possums all stepped up in this game and had a 33 to 17 victory against a strong Lightning team. Well done Possums. The Statistics page will be updated as soon as possible.

A nice team game by the Possums produced the desired result. Well done Possums. To enable an effective team rotation, all team members are needed at the start of this weeks game. The updated Goal Scorers, Results and Ladder can be found on the Statistics page. Coach's Match Report will be up soon.
Cheers, Peter -------------------------------------------------------------- 3 February 2008 Only 3 Games to Go ! Possums continue, bruising Berwick. "Injuries heal, girls dig scars, and glory lasts forever…" The coach overseas, Tay overseas, Penny over the moon and the rest of the Possums over-fed. I'm over it. Something had to be done to get rid of the Christmas turkey tummies, so it was 'game on' for our 4th last game as Junior netballers. Coach had emailed the game plan and it was studied hard the night before the game and the morning of the game. The gameplan was even studied courtside before the game, and then the siren went and the game plan went too ! Well not entirely, read it all in the Match Report, courtesy of The Muggle and Jennnnn, our 'on-court' journalists. We were told on Saturday which teams were each Division with the teams we have been playing. The Possums are in Division 1, along with The Dominoes. The rest of the teams are in Division 2. This means that there will be no semi-finals this season, it's straight into the Grand Final against The Dominoes. The ladder has been updated and round 11 is on the Statistics page. (We have just played round 12). The Game and Goal stats will be up soon. See you all next Saturday, have a great week. 15 December 2007 Only 4 Games to Go ! Possums cool Flames. While the coach is away, the Possums will play ! And play they did. Not only did they play well on the court, they 'played' up afterwards. A good first quarter got the Possums of to a great start and they settled down into a good solid game. Our friends the Flames were there to play and as usual, played a hard game. After the game a rousing 3 cheers were given to Tay to see her off on her way to the UK and thank her for her team efforts. Thanks Tay from the team, enjoy your stay overseas. As Coach Lindsay is somewhere in Idaho, the Muggles and Jenn have taken it upon themselves to write this weeks Match Report. ~Shudder~ It's been uploaded without editing and I take no responsibility for its content. -------------------------------------------------------------- 3 December 2007 Only 5 Games To Go ! Possums do a bit of socialising. Don't judge a book by it's cover is what they say, and this week they were right. The Narre Warren Socialites were anything but social on the court. They were there to knock the Possums off and threw everything they had at us, for three quarters. The Possums were three down at the first break, 10 all at half time and a goal up at three quarter time, it was set for a thrilling finish. With a couple of masterful positional changes and the grit of tough marsupials, the Possums clicked and worked their team magic, putting together a 10 to nil last term. Make no mistake, the Socialites are a good team and as Coach often says, "To be a good team, you have to play good teams." Well done Possums. Take a week off, and be there on time for the following week's game against our friendly foes, the Flames. Cheers, Peter Match Report -------------------------------------------------------------- 28 November 2007 Only 6 Games To Go ! Possums consolidate with a win against a testing Oreos. This was a game with twists and turns. A steady start with a consistant 5 goals for each of the first 3 quarters, followed by a convincing last quarter with 11 goals. Well done girls. Possums struck by Lightning This season is proving to be a challenging one, and we all know that the Possum attitude is one that never says die. After a good start to the Summer Season, the Possums have been hit with injuries in Game 5 followed by an undermanned team last week, with a third of our team required for Squad duties on game day. The Possums played at their usual 100% effort and the absent players were sorely missed. Good effort girls, keep up the good work ethic. Possums out-sparkle Rhinestones A strong game against a strong team. The Rhinestones have stepped up to a new age group and have shown that they will be a force. Statistics are updated. -------------------------------------------------------------- 21 October 2007 Match report for Game 2 (Narre Warren Flames), is up. -------------------------------------------------------------- 14 October 2007 Only 12 Games To Go ! Possums fight off strong Flames Welcome to Summer Season. A bright early game to shake the cobwebs off saw a few fumbles and lots of stepping. Some said the shadows and polished courts were confusing the umpires eyes. The Possums kicked off with a 9 goal first quarter which, considering the circumstances, was a good start to the game. Narre Warren Flames fought back strongly for the remainder of the game and the scoreline of 13-23 does not do their efforts justice. It was refreshing to see so many players nice and early for the game, keep up the good work girls, and thank you to the parents who prod you out of bed on Saturday mornings :) As Lindsay had umpiring duties straight after the game, our photo shoot will be BEFORE next weeks game. Girls, please do not forget your new caps for the photos.!

Read the Coaches Announcement here EDITORIAL Throughout the years the Xtreme Possums Junior Netball Team have shown themselves to be true ambassadors of the game. An independent team, they have shown through their committment to the coach, to each other and to the game, that a large 'club' environment is not needed to have a truly honest and successful team of champions. They have won many admirers, some making it a point to drop by and watch some of the Possum games. The Possums are admired for their 'never say die' attitude along with their fairplay and willingness to act in the best interests of the Centre, the Association, opposition teams and players. The Possums have made many friends along the way and enjoyed many well fought games against them. The Possum Parents and family are always 'on the bench' supporting the team and encouraging the good sportmanship in the Possums team. Have a great summer Possums in this, your final season of Junior Netball.
