| In early 80's in a black
settlement called Khayelitsha just outside of Cape Town in South Africa
a young man was born and no one ever thought that this young man will
oneday tell the South African story and the world story through his
imagination and hands. ).
He showed interest and passion for
art from very early age and against all odds he persued his dream of
become an artist breaking through a barrier that wanted to limit him as
young black South Africa from a poor underprivileged background. People
who love him also tried to quench the passion for art by advising him to
follow the crowd and do what everyone is inspiring to be like teacher,
policeman doctor and so on. But for him art was deeply rooted down in
his inner being and he could not escape the reality that he would like
to tell his story through art, it felt like to be an artist is his
calling and a reason that he was born..He was motivated and encouraged
to be a full time artist by people who are established artists in Cape
town and South Africa.
Matshikiza is a passionate and a
sensitive artist, he is inspired by the past, the present and the
imaginative future of his native country and continent South Africa (
Africa) and his adopted country and continent Germany ( Europe). He uses
figurative painting, abstract work, on canvases
or objects around him to communicate what is inside of him. His work is
based in historic facts and untold stories of individuals around him,
also by the present experiences and most of his work it is also
prophetic since it capture the future into today.
Matshikiza's
goal in his work is to take people in a journey with him as he reflect
and express his interpretation of life experiences. His trade mark is to
tell an ordinary story and show ordinary places which at times
maybe imaginative however wanting the viewer to be inspired to reflect
on his own existence of others and world around us. His Motto is " I am
still to create the best work" |
