In today's society, more than 30% percent of Americans are obese.  This, although it seems to be a minor issue, can in fact very possibly be a very threatening situation towards the economy, especially considering the recent state of the economy.  The financial Issues the United States faces with obesity generally is a large amount of spending by the people that, if there were was no obesity, could be going towards things that benefit themselves, and in the long run, the nation.

One area of spending is that of health-care for obese people.  Naturally, obese people are in a far more deteriorated medical state than one who is in an average state of fitness.  They suffer from heart issues, diabetes, joint bone and muscle issues, and even in some rarer cases, mental learning disabilities.  The issue is, is that not only do they have more issues, the fore mentioned issues are generally much more costly compared to one's average medical situation or solution.

Another area of concern and pointless spending is that of providing nutrition for the obese. Naturally, obese people eat more than the average person, sometimes reaching an amount of more than twice the average per day! That folks, means that these people or their guardians are having to pay twice as much per day to simply eat.

Along with the cost for nutrition, the area of a steady and effective workforce is to be worried about as well.  It is proven that in many cases, laziness and a lack of motivation is a direct result of obesity.  When one is lazy or has a lack of motivation, one is not too inclined to do a job efficiently, and the final result may not even be up to par, be it office work or manual labor.  If one had employees that were slow, non-motivated and lazy, they would naturally have to pay more, to have a job that should cost less completed the right way.  This is a major cause for concern because that means that possibly more than 30% of the Nations workforce is lazy and non-motivated, which in turn means that companies are spending too much money on employees and the completion of certain jobs and tasks.

However, there is a solution on the horizon, and it is not too difficult to achieve. The solution? Government funded and controlled "Fat Camps"! At these "fat camps", obese people will be forced by the government to spend the necessary amount of time being put into shape, being educated on proper nutrition and health, and being trained and advised to leave their lazy tendencies behind them.  However, one may think, "what is to prevent people from spending all their time at a 'fat camp', or  from simply always going back?" Well, in order to prevent people from spending all of their time, once they are medically tested and it has been proved that the individual is no longer obese, they will simply be sent home.  And as for the concern of people simply going back to these "fat camps" all the time and wasting government money...well it can be almost guaranteed that after being sweaty, tired, stressed, and deprived of love on a regular basis, one will do everything in their power to prevent from going back to a "fat camp", which is to just simply stay in shape.

Funding for a project like this is simple as well.  Initially, a tax increase would take place to pay for these "fat camps". However, after a few years, people will have saved so much money from not having the financial burden of obesity, that they will have absolutely no problem paying these taxes.

In today's society, there are enough issues, and America doesn't need anything unnecessary.  Even though obesity is a big issue, it can be easily overcome, and that is just one more big issue out of the way.
