Welcome to the Xi Kang Qin Society

The Xi Kang Qin Society is a learned society for the guqin (古琴), the Chinese seven-stringed zither.

It aims to promote the guqin, amateur qin players and the fraternity between the Society's members in form of Fellowships.

The Society was founded in November 2007 by Charles Rupert Tsua (aka Charlie Huang) after an off-the-wall conversation with a colleague in order to create a Society for a close-knit group of qin players sharing the same ideals. Since then the Society has changed its aims into a more learned society of amateur qin players and researchers.

The Society awards one diploma; that of the Fellowship of the Xi Kang Qin Society.

The Fellowship is bestowed upon persons considered worthy of the award by the Society. It is not an "honorary" award; recipients become full Fellows of the Society, usually in recognition of a worthy contribution to qin music in general.

All Fellows are entitled to assume the Society's academic dress and post-nominals (FXKQS).

NB: The Society does not award a diploma in actual performance as we do not have the facilities or expertise to instigate such an examination.

Prospective candidates should contact the Registrar in regards to supplications for Fellowship.

The Society's motto is 『聲無哀樂』 ("music is emotionless").
