In week three, we briefly reviewed what we we went over in week two. The students reminded me that in addition to discussing the need to internalize information we had discussed the need to practice to get good at anything. We also talked about Jesus being the focus of our religion.
We then reviewed the book that we will be using for the year--Finding God: Following Jesus. The book goes through the four gospels and then the letters of Paul. We looked at the five units:
Unit Theme
We then began working on Unit 1 and read about the Gospel of John. We discussed what was meant by "The Word was with God from the beginning and the Wod of God became man in Jesus," as I did not think that the concepts in those sentences were self explanatory. In addition, for the same reasons, we went over the meaning of each sentence in the following paragraph because it does not make sense to me to hae students read and not understand what they are reading, and there was some pretty complicated material on the first page of our text: "The presence of God is fully in Jesus. Reborn in Baptism through the power of the Holy Spirit, we participate in the devine nature of Jesus. Because of this, God dwells in us. We ourselves become witnesses to God's presence in the world. He is fully revealed in his Word. In Jesus, God's glory is revealed as a sign of his everlasting love." Understanding that paragraph took us to the end of the class.
We will continue onward next week. At this rate, we should finish at least 20 of the 300 pages in the text. |
