Croquet is a game for men and women of all ages. It is a mallet and ball game, played on a lawn all year round, and it exercises both mind and body - a game of skill and tactics. It is an inexpensive game, which can be played competitively or socially.
Wynnum Croquet Club, which has been operating continuously since 1925 (see History), has the only full size croquet lawns in the Wynnum-Manly/Redlands district. The club is located within easy walking distance of Wynnum Central railway station.
"Traditional Croquet" is usually taken to mean Association Croquet. It is played throughout Australia and in many other countries. (An introduction to playing Association Croquet can be found at the website of Croquet Queensland.) However, there are alternative forms of croquet, which are now played at Wynnum and at many similar clubs. Golf croquet, using the same equipment as "association", has become very popular. It is a more social game, and it is possible to become reasonably proficient at it after only a few games. The club has regular club days throughout the year, and members also play at other clubs (not only in Queensland). Free trials for newcomers and lessons for beginners are available.
