The 13th West Yorkshire Youth Games saw over 800 participants from across the County compete in ten sports, Netball High 5’s being just being one of these sports. In total ten school teams, two from each district of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield took part in the under 11’s competition held at Leeds Metropolitan University. High 5 Netball is a fun, skillful game, where players are able to rotate positions and adapt their skills to play in any position. All ten teams competing at the event were the top two primary schools from district competitions which have been running over the past few months within schools across the County. The teams displayed a great deal of netballing talent, making it a fiercely competitive yet fun tournament. The event was hotly contested across two group stages with schools from Leeds (St Marys Primary and The Frobelian School), Wakefield (St Joseph’s of Castleford), Calderdale (Barkisland Primary) making it through to the semi-finals. Both semifinals were keenly supported by teams that had played over the course of
the day, which lead to a two compelling games resulting in Calderdale (Barkisland) beating Leeds (St Marys) by 4 goals to 1 and Leeds (Froblian) securing a close win over Wakefield (St Joseph's) by 6 goals to 4. The electric atmosphere in the final saw some great individual and team skills leading to The Frobelian School of Leeds clinching the winners trophy with a 6, 3 final score. The fair-play trophy went to the district of Calderdale.
A big well done goes to all the schools that took part at every stage of the netball competition from school cluster events to the West Yorkshire Youth Games. A huge thank you goes to volunteers and umpires at the event that made the day run so successfully. Final Placings
