A course website will be used as an extension of the classroom to enhance student learning. While the internet offers many educational benefits, it is important for students to adhere to the Student Code of Conduct and the Durham District School Board Computer Use Policy at all times to keep internet use safe.
These guidelines are an agreement between MCVI and the student about creating and maintaining student websites hosted or supported by the school. This agreement covers the use of the web publishing through homepages, calendars, blogs, blog comments, wikis, podcasting, chatrooms and sharing files. It is expected that students will always act in an ethical and moral manner.
The Student Will:
- Use the Internet for the support of education, research, and information consistent with the goals of the MCVI.
- Moderate all comments posted on personal blogs. Students will remove comments that are inappropriate or could cause offence to other people.
- Ensure that the material uploaded does not violate anyone’s intellectual property and the source of all materials will be acknowledged.
- Report any misuses of the Internet including viruses, illegal access to accounts or illegal tampering.
- Understand that all material published is not private and is subject to view by a wide range of people including members of the school as well as the wider community.
- Keep his/her password confidential.
The Student Will Not:
- Post items anonymously or under a pseudonym.
- Access inappropriate files or materials.
- Access or modify other accounts, data, files, passwords.
- Allow others to use his/her account to access the Internet or any school network.
- Use the Internet to send or receive messages that are inconsistent with the MCVI's Student Code of Conduct. This includes messages that are inflammatory, harassing in nature, sexist, racist, or contain obscene or pornographic material.
- Give out personal information on the Internet.
I agree to follow the acceptable use guidelines outlined in this agreement and accept that failing to follow these tenets will have consequences. |
