Projects

The purpose of the Youth, Educators, and Storytellers (YES!) Special Interest Group is:

To advocate for, and offer support and resources in storytelling to mentors, educators, and storytellers who work with, or plan to work with, young voices from early childhood through adolescence, and to the young storytellers themselves.

Current Projects:

  • ·         YES! Alliance has provided Stories@Work Sessions geared to educators, mentors, and storytellers who work or wish to work with and for young audiences, at the National Storytelling Festival.
  • ·         Many of our YES! Alliance members mentor Youth Tellabrations as well as other Youth Storytelling Clubs & Troupes.
  • ·         YES! Alliance preconference, under the umbrella of the national Storytelling Network’s Special Interest Groups (SIGs), offers workshops for those who are interested in storytelling/ story-teaching with children from birth to young adulthood, and includes information pertinent to approaching and meeting benchmarks of core academic content standards in oral communication, pre-writing, and other English Language Arts areas.
  • ·         YES! Alliance has established a nation-wide network of communication, assistance, encouragement, and support for youth storytelling coaches, teachers of young tellers, educators for grades PreK-12, librarians and other media specialists, storytellers, parents, and adults who work with youth in clubs or other organizations.  Good news:  We are now in the process of re-creating our members-only directory!
  • ·         YES! Alliance supports research on the value of storytelling in education.
