YES! ALLIANCE: YOUTH, EDUCATORS AND
STORYTELLERS ALLIANCE 2011 EXECUTIVE ELECTION Results Co-chairpersons: Lyn Ford: Continues the second half of her term as Co-Chair of YES! She is a fourth-generation, nationally recognized, Afrilachian storyteller; a teaching artist with the Greater Columbus Arts Council, and a workshop facilitator with both GCAC and the Ohio State-Based Collaborative Initiative of the Kennedy Center; a Thurber House mentor to young authors and preschoolers in creative pre-writing sessions; a writer, published in storytelling magazines and newsletters, as well as teachers' enrichment books and story anthologies; a recording artist with award-winning CSs; a Laughter Yoga leader, a mama, grandmama, and good cook. Jane Stenson: Jane wants to work with YES! members to coordinate education and storytelling: aha! youth and storytelling – a natural combination for learning, performance and development! The combination of teachers and tellers offering the best for children has been her focus during her teaching career (30 years) and in co-authoring two books The Storytelling Classroom: Applications across the Curriculum and Literacy Development in the Storytelling Classroom. Beyond her own telling (she is teller-in-residence at a PreK through 8th Grade school), she has worked effectively with storytellers, teachers, administrators, and children to produce storytelling events and conferences including the Betty Weeks Storytelling Conference for Educators.1997-2004. Secretary: Joyce Geary: Joyce is presently YES! secretary by appointment. She is a storyteller and English as a Second language teacher with many and varied interests. She is a member of Storytellers of Central Ohio, Ohio Order for the Preservation of Storytelling, WV Storytellers, and NSN. Membership
Chairperson: Anne Wallace: Anne is co-coordinator for
the Georgia Youth Storytelling Showcase and PeachSeed Youth Storytelling
Festivals. She is a recipient of the Seanachie Award for outstanding storytelling
in Georgia from the Southern Order of Storytellers and the National Award for
Outstanding Library Programs from the American Association of School Librarians
for her inclusion of storytelling in her library programs. Lois Sprengnether Keel: Roughly 35 years experience as a children's librarian shaped LoiS as a network builder, locating resources whenever a problem needed solving. While not considering herself a "Techie", she became her own technology resource person in building her transition to full-time storyteller. Both for herself and other organizations this has included website building and maintaining. She has taken the YES! website through transitions since she became webmaster in the autumn of 2007. Member-at-large: Ellie Shinham: Ellie Shinham is a storyteller and reading specialist who just successfully planned & executed the Maryland Storytelling Summit, a new conference in Towson, MD. She has served as the YES! Storyteller-in-Residence (YES SiR) for 2010-11; in this role, she presented the YES! talk at Stories Work at the Jonesborough Storytelling Festival. Ellie's specialty is engaging children's literacy learning through storytelling.
